As I see it, the notion that basically ANYONE might be locked and loaded right now is about the best form of societal stabilization as we can hope for at a time like this.

If that's what you saw, you should be happy.

This sounds like a significant chunk of the populace decided, when the chips are down, that the 2nd Amendment is important and that they want the right to defend themselves and their families.

Why does that bother you?

That's cool, but I grew up in a family where nobody hunted or owned a gun. These were not libs either. I made the decision after I moved out on my own to buy a gun and also to start hunting. It would have been nice to grow up around hunters and guns so maybe this will change the trajectory for these folks and their kids. Kind of hard to keep blaming the gun for everything when you own one and you realize the gun doesn't do anything until you pull the trigger.

People have to start somewhere, right? How do you know these people aren't taking classes? Isn't it easier to learn how to operate a gun by using the one you own and will use in an emergency? Familiarity with the tool makes you better at using it. Have you never used someone else's car or machine tool and felt it a little "off" from your own?

You sound like one of those people that thinks ARs are inherently more scary than any other firearm.

But the larger the number of guns owned, the greater the likelihood of overlap.

That's a misguided opinion Hank.

In all likelihood, the people panic-buying firearms are the same people panic-buying rice, pasta and butt-wipes.

These are not the sort of people capable of planning a gun purchase in conjunction with a gun-safety class or instruction on a range.

So, you afraid they’re gonna come shoot you?

Did I say that? Of course not.

But some of them will almost-certainly kill SOMEONE by accident.

I was in the local gun shop picking up a few extra hundred rounds for the SKS. Very scary scene. The virus doesn’t scare me. The “quarantine” doesn’t scare me. Seeing people with weapons in their hands and completely clueless on what they are doing.

You are probably one of them.

Most-likely victims of the accidental shootings are themselves, followed by family members and neighbors.

Neither me nor any of my family members are panic-buying, because we own all the firearms that we need. My nearest neighbor is more than a mile away, so random bullets are not a great danger to us.

If any of that starts happening en masse, you’re just as screwed as anyone.

I have one with a chainsaw attachment. When you pull the trigger the saw revs up.

The AR15 is a very easy to use firearm, a QUALITY (ie not likely found at Academy) AR15 is a great first gun.

You probably met a hell of a lot more drivers who have no business behind the wheel on your way to the gun store than idiot gun owners you will ever meet. Were you scared on the road?

Agreed. If you’re in the gun store buying a couple hundred rounds at peak panic, you aren’t very informed yourself.

That's correct, it's the very first firearm that many people ever use. It was designed that way. The safety selector is almost fool proof. Much better than a button.

Same here. Having guns in your truck in the parking lot at high school was just normal. Now you would find a SWAT team when you went back to the truck.
Weird, and kinda creepy.
