Across the street of Tropicanna Field in St Petersburg, FL is "Child's Park" It is a youth center with athletic fields and pools for the "Projects" behind the facility.
Saturday late afternoon. Because of the location ...night games are not allowed. When you enter the parking lot, an elderly black man motions you into a fenced compound. He carries a baseball bat. "Ref, if anyone comes in to mess with your truck ...they gets this upsides they head."
When you enter the gate an "Off Duty Black St Petersburg Police Officer greets you. You know him because he's in the Officiating Association. "Ray, if anyone says anything out of line point them out and they will spend the night in jail." All the off duty cops are black and dressed in black jump suits......what in the hell possessed me to do these games?
Third game ,,,, winding down .... I hear the first shot before hearing the bullet go wizzing past....laying face down in the grass, I looked up to see approximately 600 fans on the same ground along with two football teams and their coaches. I was looking for a cleat divot to crawl into.
A drug deal gone bad in the projects and they were shooting at each other. You could hear the sirens from the Police Department and cars patrolling nearby converging on the area.
Yup, gotta love those projects.

Look for government investment in former commercial leasing space to be used as co-op housing, halfway housing, and low level non violent incarceration facilities. We are going to have to get creative post pandemic as tenant eviction will be parabolic in many metropolitan areas soon.
People think things are going to be better when the pandemic is declared over. It’s going to be much worse. We will need some things in place. Hoping the guys pulling the strings on SloJo at least have a pulse on this issue. Not optimistic.
