IDK... people say this red state / blue state stuff like highways dont exist. the kid either went to the Utah Valley college or drove 3 hours.
and alot of colleges are in purple / blue leaning areas. if this happened in Austin , people would be saying blue area in a red state .

I would imagine a combination of social media, the MSM, college, and his friend group.
On both sides of the political spectrum, we have become an extremely lazy and collective society. People don't want to be independent thinkers because that requires effort and may get you ostracized. They just want social media and the collective to tell them how to think.
