Twitter stands a 50% chance of a major outage that could take the site offline during the World Cup, according to a recently departed employee with knowledge of how the company responds to large-scale events.

The former employee, who was granted anonymity because of the sensitivity of what was discussed, has knowledge of the workings of Twitter Command Centre, the platform’s team of troubleshooters who monitor the site for issues such as traffic spikes and data centre outages.

“Between the lack of preparations and the lack of staffing, I think it’s going to be a rough World Cup for Twitter,” said the former employee.

He suggested that an incident of some kind – such as a service responding slowly or incorrectly – is almost a certainty during the 29-day competition in Qatar, estimating a 90% possibility of something going wrong that users would see.

The likelihood of Twitter staying online during the competition, which kicks off on Sunday, is no better than even, according to the former employee.

Twitter is “likely to struggle with traffic at kickoff, and may crash,” he said. “If we’re lucky, it will recover with minimal disruption.”

So, a 50% chance that it doesn’t crash.

I really enjoy the left whining about how Twitter is destroyed and how Elon is ruining it and how ENTIRE CRITICAL TEAMS HAVE BEEN ELIMINATED LOL.

Yet Twitter operates today the exact same way it did a month ago, with just a billion dollars less bloat on the payroll.

If trumps announcement didn’t crash it I don’t see how in the hell a soccer tournament would.

Seems these news cycles max out at two weeks. Just like any maga “we got ‘em now!” Situation. Then it goes in the same file as the Russia hoaxes.

You’ll know when it’s close to death spiral because any law enforcement will announce either a obstruction of justice charge or a civil suit, a signal that this nothing burger is well done.

The headline should have read “Disgruntled formerTwitter employee wish casts a tech issue during World Cup play”.

The media will present this as fact.

Their source is a former employee that got canned. They are wishcasting along with the journalist that pushed this nonsense.

I thought it was already supposed to be down. Is this like Obama’s line in the sand? “Oh, yeah? Then cross this one.”

The media is going to push these stories from "former employees" who will also be "unnamed sources" until either Twitter fails (and they will rejoice) or they realize they won't be able to wish that reality into existence.

It also has a 50% of succeeding without dead beat employees.
