The Orthodox Church does NOT recognize the pope in Rome, and each country's orthodox church is autonomous and has its own leader.
The Roman Catholic Church has been making overtures to the Orthodox for decades to try and re-unify, but it's extremely unlikely the Orthodox will ever willingly recognize the guy in the Vatican.

Many times the go-to excuse is that Orthodox and Eastern Catholics aren't real Christians so it doesn't count. As if Christ said kill all the infidels as long as they're not Southern Baptist.
It's pathetic how uniformed so many are, and how many think they'll make it through heaven's gate with that spirit. They worship the state of Israel as their god, and many are not Christians at all, but people of other religions proclaiming to be Christian.

The only reason Christians survived in Syria, Lebanon and Iraq was due to the Baathists being secular or Alawites.
