The tariff battle nearly destroyed many U.S. farmers. Trade wars do no one any favors. Slow incremental progress is the only way to solve the U.S. trade deficit.
Right.
We dont need some politician trying to force trade parity by negotiating trreaties.
I trust our entrepreneurs far more than I do our politicians. The govt cant save me.

True in general but we could make a lot more stuff here more efficiently if not for burdensome govt regulations
It’s hypocritical by us. We demand clean air and water and safe work environments and minimum wages and all kinds of regulatory red tape for companies, then production becomes inefficient and we decide we prefer the goods be made overseas because it’s cheaper. It’s cheaper because China doesn’t care about pollution, safe work environment, or low wage sweat shop labor. And we are ok with that because “it’s not us doing it” even though our money funds it.
The best thing we could do is deregulate our industries to allow more efficient production

Yeah, regulations add roughly 20% cost to products and services here.
Government scams to create unneeded jobs.

Don't really have an opinion on the topic but I give you kudos for treating a collective noun as singular, because we live in the US. People who say "the data are" instead of "the data is" should be forced to eat nothing but black pudding for the rest of their lives.

No wonder you are so angry about this
How pathetic you are
You seem dumb enough to believe that these costs are an even split among all Americans. Who do you think buys the bulk of cheap Chinese goods? The Trumps? The Kushners? People earning 6 figures? Nope. The working class stiffs who Trump stuck it to once again

We evolved beyond the mfg economy.
Yes, some people are being left behind. That's on them.
What's worse? A smaller economy NOT dependent upon a country whose goal is to do is harm?
Or continue following the multinational corporations plan for ever increasing profit and when, for whatever reason, trade with that country isn't possible.....
We're fricked?
Nobody is saying end all international trade, but begin to curb it away from China.

Who pays sales tax? Who pays for the products in stores? These kind of questions are dumb. Consumers always pay for everything unless you are arguing China is losing money to sell below costs just to help America…which is again dumb.

In my teens and 20s I learned skills (drafting, cabinet making, welding, scuba diving, business mgt, teaching, public speaking) and iny 30s got my masters
I took it up on myself to ensure I would stay employed and have growth opportunities.
It's not the governments job to grow you
This is called arguing over something nobody is suggesting.
I get that you need to try to sell a point that isn't true, but I'm just going to keep pointing out that you are making things up and trying to pin that on people.
Nobody in this thread has remotely suggested it's the gov's job. Not one. That's you making up .... shite.

No. That's just another lie that you want to pin on people.

Still, it's correct. Even today I see a lot of our resident "Never-Trump" crowd downplaying the effectiveness of the Trump tariffs, but the actual data has been undeniable all along. They worked, and brought manufacturing jobs back to America from overseas.
yup

.... oh ... wait ... that's exactly why the Chamber of Commerce and Paul Ryan support an open southern border.
