Agree, but the reality is you have to agree to bad provisions to get to 218.

There are some good things in the bill and some bad things in the bill. If we ever have a bill that one group is completely satisfied with then it is probably a sign representative democracy is over in this country.

But don’t you think that’s why we shouldn’t have these massive fricking bills ?

At the end of the day, the Rs continue to prove they’re actually not for shrinking the government or spending, just for diverting spending to where they want when in power. One day people may realize the two party system only fricks us, you can’t hold any of these pieces of shite accountable for the crap they continue to pull

Absolutely, every admin - whether (R) or (D) is at the end of their name - doing reconciliation to try to ram through shite that wouldn’t make it through normal debate is bad for this country.

Increasing funding for ICE is bad? You weren't getting 60 votes for that. I doubt you would have gotten 60 votes on the tax issue.

It occurred to me with this no tax on tips up to $25k biz that the data collected over the next 3 years could easily be compared and contrasted against returns filed before and after. Take that cheese...
You know damn well there'll be returns where $2k-$3k a year was reported that suddenly jumps to $25k for the next 3 years, just saying.

It’s setting a bad precedent by passing this without debate. This was not thought through well and congress doesn’t even know what they passed.

Just wait until the dems do the same, there is bad precedent here.

Did you? Projecting?

Obamacare was in discussion for months. This bill was never discussed.

Massive difference.

discussions with who? You gotta pass it to see what's in it?

you got that right at least
quote:

Here's how it generally worked:
Senate Democrats lacked the 60 votes needed to overcome a filibuster on their version of the health care reform bill.

To bypass this obstacle, Senate Democrats took the text of H.R. 3590, which had already passed the House and was pending in the Senate, and offered their ACA legislation as a comprehensive amendment that essentially replaced the entire text of the original bill.

This allowed the Senate to begin debate on the ACA text without needing to go through the usual process of bringing up a new bill, which would have been subject to a potential filibuster.

After the Senate passed its amended version of H.R. 3590, the bill was sent back to the House.

Due to the altered political landscape (specifically, the loss of a key Democratic Senate seat), Senate Democrats no longer had the 60 votes to overcome a filibuster if the House made further significant changes to the bill.

Therefore, the House ultimately agreed to pass the Senate's version of H.R. 3590 as-is to avoid sending it back to the Senate for another vote.

The Senate then used the reconciliation process (which requires only a simple majority vote) to pass a separate amendment bill that made certain changes to the version of H.R. 3590 that had been passed by the House.

Not to mention the cheer squad absolutely hated Mike Johnson until Dec 2024. Now they love RINOs.

The GOPe co-opted MAGA even faster than they did the Tea Party.
