I don't recall a single Republican - not even a single Trump Republican - saying "no national laws of any kind".

Perhaps I am wrong.

Can you direct me to the portion of the constitution that contains the clause describing "executive orders" and the fact that these have the effect of law?

He’s doing this to get it into the courts. Somebody will inevitably tip their hand and sue to prevent this.

The states with strict photo ID laws are:

Arkansas

Georgia

Indiana

Kansas

Mississippi

Nebraska (law took effect in April 2024)

Ohio

Tennessee

Wisconsin

Louisiana asks for photo ID. To my recollection they always have. But I have no idea what happens if you don't have it. I've never even seen it happen

Whatever Florida does is what the rest of the country should be doing.

The single biggest reason that Florida can report their counts more quickly than most states is that they have legislation that allows them to start counting early and mail-in votes prior to election day.

Make it a federal holiday.

Give everyone opportunity to get a Voter ID free of charge if they “can’t afford an id”

Done.

States may just ignore the executive order, as it is contradicted in the Constitution. This would mean Trump would have to have the federal government sue the states. This might bring it to the Supreme Court, which would be a pretty easy decision for them - unconstitutional.

The irony is that when it was Republicans/MAGA pushing for the "independent state legislature" theory, guess what they supported.

I don’t know what that theory is, but you are, yet angain, leaving out important context such as WHO the battle is against.

This is already the case in every state that currently requires ID to vote.

There is only one reason for not requiring ID to vote, and/or fighting to not require ID to vote.

Trump to sign EO requiring voter ID. He will also restrict mail-in voting and require paper ballots.

I absolutely voted for this.
historical victory if he can implement it

If a President can unilaterally created voter ID than a President can unilaterally dissolve voter ID

I hope there are less DEMs (mentally ill people) in our country than we’ve been told. That would give me hope.

Why can't we have a picture-laden SS card

I like this proposal and would happily go to SS office and have my photo taken every 7 years or so. Not sarcastic, I mean it. This could really cut down on the grift of SS money. SS could have a data base on photos that could determine if a photo is used under more than one name, or the other way around. Basically the same as a passport without international travel.
