agreed, if they get rid of it it shouldn't be permanent dst.

Studies show that keeping standard time year round is better for people's health

Not for my mental health. I wouldn’t go so far as using the term depression but the early darkness for 4 months certainly puts me in a gloomy mood.

I don’t want to change clocks. Conveniently, we and other states are waiting on the fees to allow us permanent daylight time. Permanent standard time is allowed, see AZ

I hate it getting dark at 5:00 in the winter

I love it. But I also wake up at 5 am and am ready for bed around 8 PM so I’m an outlier.

I've never heard a rational argument for keeping Standard Time.

See how that works?

Seriously though, I hate that it gets dark before 5PM from mid-November till mid-January. I would rather have more daylight after work to get things done outside in the winter. Drive to work in the dark and come home in daylight.
Getting dark that early is just melancholy to me. Makes it seem like bedtime by 6 PM. Even keeping my normal work/meal/sleep routine, I find myself nodding off in my recliner in the evening much more often in the winter when it gets dark early.

and with DST year round it would be dark until 8 AM from late DEC thru FEB.
Kids should not be waiting for the school bus in the dark.

simple solution: move the school hours to later in the day

i really don’t understand why this is difficult

DST or standard time…you’re still commuting one way in the dark during winter. Only difference is whether its the morning or evening commute is the one in the dark

Who wants it pitch black at 5pm?

California voted to end it 4 years ago on a ballot initiative and State reps never voted to end it.

It's not 1850 , we're not all Farmers and Benjamin Franklin is dead.

You guys realize the amount of sunlight is not affected by the clock, right?

We should keep the same time scheme year-round, either daylight savings time (better) or standard time. It's the changing from one to another that doesn't make sense

For some reason that's what people seem to prefer. Most people's schedules are set up such that DST gives them more sunlight in the evening.

It seems unnatural to me, though. I like for my work day to coincide with the presence of sunlight. I don't really care to work an extra hour each morning in the dark so I can duck out of work early and play golf or whatever. The people who want to do that should have to negotiate it with their boss, and speaking as a manager I don't like those guys. Doesn't work well with anyone else's schedule, and it tends to turn people into clock-watchers.
