re: Trump turns up his yellow belly and refuses to free Roger Stone

quote:People can argue about whether Stone’s actions SHOULD have been defined as criminal by Congress.
Why wouldn't they when they know a jury would convict a Republican operative for anything, despite the evidence presented.
People can argue about whether Stone should have been prosecuted by the DoJ.
People can argue about whether the case should have been tried in DC.
People can argue about the sentence.
But is ANYONE actually contending that Stone did not lie to Congress while under oath?

Amy Jackson made some unbelievably unprofessional and politically partisan statements from the bench today.

Nowhere did I say Trump needs political cover. That has frick all to do with what I said. Surely you comprehend the difference between political cover and exposing more bias in the system. WTF does the media have to do with this. I said moderates and dems are moving toward Trump. Do you think they are slang for Media??? Good grief.
I think some of you are so pissed off about what Trump has gone through that it really affects the way you perceive comments. I am on Trumps side 100% and I am also for pardoning Stone if required.
In the larger scheme of things don't you think Stone, his family, and his lawyers know with certainty that Trump is going to pardon him and there is no chance he will walk into prison? Seriously? This is obviously a tag team strategy at this point. Swamp cleans faster the more it is exposed.

I thought his belly was orange.

Stone will be protected on the inside, will get a book deal, and will get pardoned via re-election or God forbid the day after Trump loses bid for a 2nd term. Relax.

Let the appeals process play out. Getting a reversal on appeal makes the judge look bad and is harder to spin as an undeserved free pass.
And Trump can always pardon or commute later. Commuting might even be better (like W did with Scooter Libby)

Several legal experts have said the bias of the jury foreperson was plenty enough to overturn this conviction.

Stone should have kept his damn mouth shut..a good lesson for all you young guys out there...plus, never e-mail anything of a sensitive nature.

Stone will never spend a day in jail. Now he might be broke but he’ll never be incarcerated.

KCT
I find it fascinating that people that have zero knowledge of the legal system chime in all the time.
First, Stone has not spend more than one day in jail...thanks cnn/fbi raid. He will never spend a day in jail.
I am a bit surprised that the sentence was handed out before ruling on the Motion for New Trial. I also do not trust Judge Berman but there are currently many avenues going on right now. First is the Motion. If granted, the doj has to decide if they want to even prosecute. That is a big IF.
If judge denies the Motion, there is the appeal. I think there is a better than 50% chance this gets overturned and new trial ordered. If that happens, again, does the doj want a new trial or just drop it? Of course, by this time, Trump will be in office and re-elected. He can commute the sentence anytime after with zero blowback that would affect his presidency and with zero time in jail by Stone.
Why jump to the end with nothing good coming from it from either side? Think people...think.

I think there is enough "bias" on the part of the witness. I say that without reading the voir dire and knowing what the defense knew or how it was conducted or how the challenge was or was not used.
I do want to know what she put on the jury questionnaire she completed and, if any dishonesty, should be reversed. Those of us in the courtroom fear this type of juror hiding their agenda to reach a conclusion. It is more troubling in a political case with such political hatred. Surely you can see that.

Juror who publicly commented on the case.

By the way this sentence is pretty much what Barr was recommending so all those 2,000 former DOJers that signed that letter demanding his resignation did was admit to their own corruption. Now let that sink in for a moment when you are complaining about Trump not draining the swamp fast enough.

she was questioned by the court about any bias arising from the fact that Roger Stone was a supporter of Donald Trump. She was questioned regarding her own political background, including her previous political campaigns in her home state. No one asked her about social media posts.
She clearly stated that she was able to set aside her personal politics and serve as an impartial juror. I suspect you have picked a jury or three and that you understand the importance of that last sentence.
After several pages of questioning, Judge Jackson asked whether anyone wished to make a motion to dismiss for cause. The defense declined to make a motion.
(full transcript)
We have seen zero evidence that she lied about anything. The worst arguable omission was that she did not volunteer disclosure (she was not asked) of a tweet in which she criticized the amount of force used during Stone’s arrest.

TRUMP WAS ADVISED TO WAIT IT OUT, JUST AS HE WAS ADVISED TO WAIT OUT THE INDICTMENTS & BE PATIENT. IT'S COMING, IT'S ALL COMING.

I missed this dude's really dumb post.

Penalties do not recognize age of perpetrator.
If you think age is not a factor in charging and sentencing decisions, you're an absolute idiot.

All crimes have a victim.
Show me who Roger Stone so gravely harmed to the point that years in prison is the only appropriate resolution.
Btw, Roger Stone is a first time offender and first time offenders who commit non-violent, victimless crimes don't belong in prison.

Judge Jackson: “ I have received letters urging me not to silence an important voice in the public arena, but that will not be an element of this sentence in any way. I expect he will keep talking. And as you've just heard when I went through the elements of the offense, he was not convicted and is not being sentenced for exercising his First Amendment rights, his support of the President's campaign or his policies.
"He was not prosecuted, as some have complained, for standing up for the President. He was prosecuted for covering up for the President."

Yesterday he said he would withhold his vote for Trump over it.
I said no such thing. I said that I would strongly consider it depending on who the democrats nominate and if Trump leaves Stone to rot in jail. Nothing committal about it. You need to stop lying.
Aint nobody got time to type all that shite. You got the idea. Settle down Nancy and cast your vote like a man.l
