The president tells staff on call the Wall Street Journal is "working on an important piece."

Not sure how the pres would know this. It is a major breach of journalistic ethics, especially for a prestigious paper like the wsj, to tip off the pres.

Yeah, because this apparently is where the buck stops on ethics nowadays.

You’re such a weird dude.

He didn’t say WSJ told him they were working on a story.

Any story that the NYT or WSJ would get is already likely known to many in Washington, and the reporters are likely chasing down confirmation and comments so they tip everyone off, not just the President.

The WSJ will communicate with the WH all the time to confirm or comment on the facts surrounding a story.

Oftentimes, a newspaper will call the subject on a piece, saying we are writing a piece on you on XYZ subject, do you have a response or quote?

How so? News originating from media sources is not considered top secret info. So if the WSJ got a reliable phone call that someone is fixing to assassinate the president you're saying they should sit on it until they verify it?

Have you never watched "All the President's Men"?

WSJ: "We're publishing a story that says that Hunter Biden's laptop was not stolen and the NYP's story was entirely accurate. Does the WH wish to comment?"

WH: "No. That is accurate."
