it was a cover your arse move. We bungled the withdrawal and “protecting” our local “allies” was a face-saving measure.
If you look at that summary, the program was originally intended to be very small. Only a few thousand people per year. No doubt, the program got overwhelmed there at the end as a result of that goatfrick of a withdrawal.
Again, however, I drawn an analogy to the withdrawal from South Vietnam. It was ridiculously hectic at the end as well. The overloaded planes leaving Bagram were eerily reminiscent of the helicopters taking off from the roof of the US Embassy in Saigon. But the net effect of the Saigon goatfrick for the United States was a large number of really good citizens.

I used to work in Republican politics and have a better than average understanding of the legislative process. I generally do not trust the main stream media so when there is a topic in the news I seek out the actual documents and legislation. I am far from an expert, I just read a lot of source documentation.
Thanks. It shows. I'm with you on source documents rather than reliance on X grifters or the MSM. For me, PoliBoard is best when anyone brings in those source documents, and there's an honest discussion about them with people bringing their real life expertise and experience.
I appreciate your input despite the onslaught of misguided personal attacks.

South Vietnamese aren’t good comparisons to Afghanis. A South Vietnamese citizen likely found themself diametrically opposed to the North Vietnamese in worldviews. The Afghani fighting the Taliban thought much more like the Taliban than they do a United States citizen.
IOW, just because we import them, they still think like Afghanis. And their likelihood to assimilate is far lower than a South Korean because it’s an incompatible worldview.
A guy I considered my friend was a politically-motivated Muslim. It was eye-opening to hear his unvarnished opinions on world issues. His kids went to the best Western private schools. He was a very successful doctor. Loved sports and Death Cab. And celebrated the death of our soldiers in the Middle East.

Unfortunately, 90% of threads are initiated based upon the latter.
“(Insert name of someone that 99.9% of the population has never heard of) says …”
While requests for the former are uniformly treated with this derision and disdain.

Trump: if we bring in all these people, some bad things are going to happen.
Media: You’re dumb.

Trump: See?
Media: Actually, it’s your fault.

For some people, “Trump said so” is all the proof they need.
Others would like to see the statute that he references, and verify his assertion. Why? Because Trump has a 50 year history of being somewhat … flexible… about the truth and the facts.
Agreed. I thought people accepted that Trump makes things up as being part of his mastery of the "Art of the Deal."
So, defending his every word as the Gospel Truth is pretzel making and tedious.

I have no idea what he is referring to. I know the Biden administration rejected 90% of Afghan parole requests. Trump pulled TPS for Afghans a while ago. Maybe he is referring to the Afghan Adjustment act, but that has not been passed yet.
This 2022 article about afghans seeking to enter the US has nothing to do with the DC shooter, who was already in the US by 2021.
The program he was allowed in under (OAW) had a 99+% approval rate for asylum adjudication.
quote:
April 3, 2023 – USCIS releases data showing that it has adjudicated only 11% of the 15,697 asylum applications filed by Afghan people who entered the United States under Operation Allies Welcome, and that it granted 99.6% (all but 7) of the few applications it decided.

Edit: as of 2025, the asylum approval rate was over 97%

quote:Well, in candor, neither did you. You posted a clip that specifically excluded the bulk of the reporter’s question. Here is the full clip.quote:Know how I know you didn't watch the whole thing?
Typical Trump response to a hard question
The reporter first outlines the fact that Trump‘s own DHS had issued a statement to the effect that this assailant had been fully vetted, and passed, before being granted asylum BY the Trump administration.
She then asks how Biden was responsible for that approval during the Trump administration, at which point Trump calls her “stupid” and starts waving around a photo of the goatfrick withdrawal from Bagram, which took place four years before Trump's DHS granted hiim asylum.
Were there any red flags which should have excluded this guy from either the initial visa or the subsequent grant of asylum? At this point, we simply do not know. The facts are not yet available to us. But her question was entirely reasonable. In essence,
quote:
Mr. President, why are you blaming Biden for this shooting, when your own administration granted the assailant’s request for permanent asylum?

Apparently he doesn't watch the daily News. Democrat appointed Judges have been blocking them for ever.
