This moron reporter who was asking the question was trying to say Americans directly "cut the check" Which is stupid.

The importer cuts the check. That’s a fact that needs to be stated apparently.

The foreign government does not. That was the stupidity argument that is being refuted.

How much of that cost gets passed on to consumers depends on the specific products.

Their feels so badly want muh tariffs to be a disaster, like they were so sure they would be several weeks ago. The TDS just can't see them give up hope on that. It's going to happen!

One that the CEO just announced in the white house meeting with President Trump the other day, billions of investment in the U.S. to manufacture them here with American workers.

Japanese car companies immediately reduced their wholesale price to importers in the US. This allowed the importer to pay the tariff and end up back at the original price.....ensuring no increase to the end consumer. Yes the importer wrote the check, but the foreign manufacturer paid for it.
This is hurting companies who have very little US footprint but rely onnthe US market to sell their cars.

Yes…until they find a domestic source or one is created. Which is kind of the whole point.

Just so everybody is clear you do not know the answer to my simple question and you wrote a big long dissertation without any fact to support it

As we’re seeing, if that taxing of foreign profits isn’t causing much effect on the prices Americans are seeing, what’s the downside for Americans?

What the idiots on here do not realize is that it is not a zero sum gain

For example take olive oil. Italy imposes 30% tariffs on products from the US but Greece agrees for zero terrace both ways

So you can buy olive oil from Greece for three dollars or you can buy olive oil from Italy for five dollars

Prices on some goods are rising and prices on some goods are going lower but at least now we have a choice and our products are being fairly represented overseas

"America First" is just a mindless slogan, no?

It could be and would be for just about all politicians, but Trump is not your average politician. He is working to make it meaningful. It's not just tariffs. The border has been sealed incredibly fast and well and so we won't be having 20 million illegals coming in the country this year, next year and the following years using American resources that would normally go to American citizens like what was previously happening. America first.

It's hard to tell how things like tariffs will affect everything because there are many aspects to consider including things you are mentioning, but clearly the immediate gloom and doom that was predicted did not come to pass. I don't always agree with Trump, but he is always negotiating to get the best deal out of something for himself or for the country, so it's also hard to tell at times what his end game is when he is making moves. But as a whole, he definitely is trying hard to get the best outcomes for America before all else, so I don't think it's a meaningless slogan in his case.

Market share matters.

A greater market share equates to greater control and less volatility.

In short, eating a (sizable) portion of the tariff may be better than increasing the price of consumer goods (which may allow the door to open for more competition).

The irony of all of this, however, is that you goose-steppers have no issue placing “environmental fees (taxes)” on American businesses, which are then passed onto the consumer.

You are a disingenuous shitbag that reeks of ignorance.

I don't give a flying f***. I would rather pay $1,000,000 per year in tariff related costs than a $0.01 in income taxes.

I'm sure that all the invaders from the south that I saw on tv with their smart phones paid the same as we do for ours. These companies rip off Americans just like the drug companies do. We support the entire world by being gouged for products.

I would guess those are all American phones from companies like TMobile and Optimum and the like. Your example has nothing to do with illegal immigration.
