I’m uncomfortable with our president having that kind of power

Agree about LL Protection. It is a no win because if the statistics are true and 58% of renters are facing eviction, then who will replace the tenants that are evicted? Other tenants that were evicted, and thus a vicious cycle begins.
I don’t believe in any kind of freeloading, but it is not as simple as just throwing everybody out.
& BTW, I am a LL...

I own rental properties and still have to pay the bank. This has put owners in a terrible bind because people know they don't have to pay. Unless the banks are told to stop collecting, this is bad news.

How many times have I seen on these boards the saying, "elections have consequences"?

We conservatives voted in Republican mayors, governors, US representatives and senators, and a president that were supposed to keep the liberal frick the country over machine in check, and it turns out we weren't very smart about our votes.

If they have violated the terms of our leasing agreement I am kicking them out. I don’t care how POTUS feels about this.

Yeah, I don’t agree with the freezing evictions. People have been getting federal unemployment money for months and have been making as much or more in unemployment than if they had been working. No reason they couldn’t have kept paying rent. All this does is royally frick the average rental property owner who has no recourse for tenants who don’t pay rent while the landlord still has to pay for insurance, property taxes, maintenance, and likely a mortgage without being able to collect rent.

Even with the mortgages frozen, its still bad news because you’d still be coming out of pocket for insurance and maintenance. And I doubt local governments are going to give you a break on property taxes either

This is all true and everyone is waiting to foreclosure on properties if the government doesn't provide the same protection to owners.

The problem is that people that have the ability to pay are choosing not to pay because they don't have to.
Instead, they're spending that money on other things like Huge TV's, Bikes or other non essentials. Have you tried to buy a TV, Bike or Gun lately?

If they didn't have the money for the 1st month how would they have everything in a lump sum?
I didn't think it was possible but now I feel we are heading for a huge economic collapse, at least real estate. 33% of Colorado cant pay rent and they are asking the owners to cover? How the frick?

So what does this mean, free rent? Can I just say I can't pay even though I can and just game the frick out of this?

so basically have more time to not be employed. What ever can an unemployed person do when they aren't required to pay their own rent? Oh....i know, protest against (read: vandalize and get violent) the authoritarian that is given them the funds to not have to work.

Who wants to spend their COVID dividends on rent? And how else is Joe Blow going to keep up with the looters?

That’s what I said. Just thought people were getting away rent free. This was the first I have heard of this. I pay rent btw. Never stopped.

Just open things back up but in freezing evictions is kicking the can down the road. Eventually, it has to be dealt with.
