But if he is, why would Canada's provinces collapse into a single state? Would Quebec give-up semi-autonomy and French?
A trade pact/treaty or some such could accomplish his objectives without the complications of Canadian statehood.

The legislative & exec branches would be perpetually blue. The Court may shield us for a while, but as soon as a couple of the conservative justices died out, it would go majority leftist/activist. At that time, the Republic would be officially over unless an Amendment located somewhere between 1st and 5th was exercised in mass.

We don't need Quebec. Let them form their own country. Let the English speaking eastern provinces form another, and have Vancouver join them.

As a state, Canada would get about 62 electoral votes if we kept the same scheme and expanded things to accommodate them. It would be like adding another California and Oregon with regard to House, Senate, and electoral vote distribution.
