Typically these studies are done by the guys that get blamed after no money is slotted to them to do necessary repairs.
The studies are done to lobby for more expenditures. It's not more complicated than that.

We're giving trump credit for decade old infrastructure issues now?
Holy hell

True. In fact, wasn't that the claimed focus of Obamas 1,000,000,000,000
"stimulus" package back in '09? What happened to all that money and all those "shovel ready jobs"?

Minnesota, and it was an interstate bridge.

It is stock campaign rhetoric to promise infrastructure repair.

Yes, Minnesota.
The I-35W Mississippi River bridge (officially known as Bridge 9340) was an eight-lane, steel truss arch bridge that carried Interstate 35W across the Saint Anthony Falls of the Mississippi River in Minneapolis, Minnesota, United States. During the evening rush hour on August 1, 2007, it suddenly collapsed, killing 13 people and injuring 145. The bridge was Minnesota's third busiest,[4][5] carrying 140,000 vehicles daily.[3] The NTSB cited a design flaw as the likely cause of the collapse, noting that a too-thin gusset plate ripped along a line of rivets, and asserted that additional weight on the bridge at the time of the collapse contributed to the catastrophic failure.[6]

When I was in college I met the guys that were investigating the collapse.
Basically a combination of too much construction equipment on the bridge and a weak gusset plate that was actually noted in an inspection report for repair, but maintenance was deferred due to cost.
Another study that called for too much spending no doubt.

But when Obama said it, it was a union plot to "make work" at the expense of the over taxed middle class.

No...it was a "plot" to bail out the failing Ponzi scheme of their legacy pension dues.

quote:Oh, it's worse than that. R's have been actively spurning even the most basic infrastructure spending. Take the interstates, e.g. Opposing Obama, they were unwilling even just to spend for maintenance on highways at the pace of inflation. And instead of actually funding highways, they sold oil from the SPR...when it was in the $30s per barrel. Truly shameful. It's beyond hypocritical for them now to be for "infrastructure spending". 56,000 bridges.
I want to see it done with American made steel. Right now, certain high strength bolts are only made in china.
This will be The major test of trumpian power. Will we have to end usa member wto? Do it now.

The interstate bridge on I-5 between Portland Oregon and Vancouver Washington is a hundred-year-old drawbridge that is structurally deficient. It carries most of the North/South traffic on the west coast daily and is in an earthquake zone. The only alternate routes going north and south are u.s. Highway 101 on the coast and US Highway 97 on the east side of the Cascades, both of which are two lane roads. If that bridge Falls the entire West Coast is screwed, and yet there is nothing being done to replace it. There was a project called the Columbia River Crossing that cost several hundred million dollars and 10 years to plan a new bridge but it was scuttled by the state legislators of Washington and Oregon, despite the fact that federal funds were going to pay a large portion of it, and it would have extended the mass transit train across the river, easing much of the daily local traffic

The Republicans shot down the Stimulus and it's "shovel ready jobs" that were promised to fix these infrastructure issues?

I hope his infrastucture plan includes the i10 bridge in Lake Charles. That thing isn't even up to interstate standards and has one too many bandaids holding it together.
