As long as the sports-as-politics crew on either side can convince themselves that the worst of their team is better then the best of the other team, it is all that is needed to justify allegiance and rationalize away any manner of hypocrisy, double standards, moral compromises, and actions they would never tolerate if the shoe was on the other foot.

I don't think you understand the nuance behind anonymous sources. In fact, there are many news organizations that allow them, and many that do not.
Personally, if a story like this one is released, I believe the public has a right to know who the source is. It lends more credibility to the situation as a whole.
Now, there may be certain areas where anonymous sources may be applicable in the world of journalism, but with stories like these, sources should be revealed.

There has been non stop leaks coming out of the agencies, the previous administration and even some in this current White House that has an ax to grind with this President and its time to put an end to it.
If the leaker is an american, he needs to be found, tried and convicted in a court of law and given the harshest possible sentence he can get. Make an example out of this leaker to discourage future possible leakers.
