He's trying to win an election here, not score points with libertarians.

You (I assume) and I are fine. The virus hasn't changed anything with my financial situation. But this is not the case for many people in the midwest, a region that Trump desperately needs. State officials have spent months wrecking local economies in the midwest. It's not Trump's fault, but this is still an opportunity for him to come to their aid, to not be seen as abandoning the people who got him elected.

To me, that's more important than taking a stand for the sake of fiscal conservatism right before the election.

He should not be doing this. If he can't nominate a SC justice right now, he can do nothing else either.

I agree, but I would rather this pass and Trump win reelection, then nothing pass and Hiden wins. Then it would be a $5T stimulus Bill with $2T additional on climate crap.

He's bailing out blue states that willfully cut their own throats knowing they'd get bailed out like this. I don't ever want to hear anyone that supports this bitch about Democrats spending too much money

Well this is not correct.

He knows she won't take it before the election. Now he looks reasonable and it still won't happen.

Stop fricking spending money.

Trump is getting close to Obama level spending.

We need an article V convention and a reset in the worst way.

Amen.

I am a born and raised diehard apologist for the city of New Orleans but I’d rather it crumple and fold than receive a single federal dollar.

Latoya is literally keeping the state shut down specifically for federal funding. If she gets it, she is rewarded for her behavior. I’d rather the city have to rebuild than reward her. And before someone says that’s too harsh, maybe the city folding will wake up the morons who put her in office because she rode in on a horse bought and paid for by all of the big money and old money in the city. Let them live with their decision.

It’s like my three year old throwing a tantrum and refusing to pick up his toys until I give him candy. If you give him the candy you have failed as a parent.

frick bailing all of these people out with federal money. America is being destroyed and ballooning debt out of control because we refuse to just let people deal with their actions.

This is beyond stupid. In the macro sense stimulus DOES NOT help those that are struggling. Sure...some will get a quick $1,200 high but it will be gone in a month. Meanwhile they will be paying 15% more for food staples in the next 5 years.

Stimulus helps those of us that own asset classes that will inflate when M2 increases.

Trump isn't conservative. He's a 90s/00s liberal. This relief package is what I'd expect from him, so I'm not upset about it. I believe there're too many people who need that relief. It's not their fault that the government stepped in and forced them not to work, by forcibly shutting down their businesses.

He probably has wall money in the bill. If it does Pelosi will say no. She will look bad and blame Trump for making it political.

Update -

quote:

President Donald Trump said he wants an even bigger stimulus than what Democrats have offered so far, seeming to undercut his own negotiators, who had prepared a $1.8 trillion offer to make to House Speaker Nancy Pelosi today.

“I would like to see a bigger stimulus package, frankly, than either the Democrats or the Republicans are offering,” Trump said on Rush Limbaugh’s radio program, saying he’s going in the “exact opposite” direction from his earlier stances.

It's not the amount, it's who the money goes to. I have no problem with 1.8 as long as Pelosi gives up the money to illegal aliens and all the money to the Dem cities who promoted riots. She has lots of Dem pork in there that has nothing to do with compensating for Covid's economic impact.

Not happy with all of this spending, but if it doesn't bail out leftist cities' decades long screwed up pension plans i can deal with it. Especially since Pelosi won't let him have something like this to crow about. He can bludgeon the democrats with this proposal for the next 3 weeks.
