Anyone sponsoring an immigrant who collects welfare benefits before becoming a legal permanent resident could be on the hook for the bill. That’s according to a new presidential memorandum set to be released Thursday by the White House.

President Trump will sign the memorandum directing federal agencies to ensure that any individual sponsoring a noncitizen must take financial responsibility for any income-based welfare benefits that immigrant receives.

The move is meant to promote self-sufficiency for noncitizens and preserve the social safety net for people living legally in the country, a senior administration aide told RealClearPolitics.

It's amazing we have to fight so hard to get common sense regulations like this enforced.

This is BS, heck I am sponsoring someone now

my objection would be how in the world do they get welfare in the first place?

that's on the people who issue these funds

sponsorship is required to the path of citizenship but absolutely required for residence here...

I don't understand the SS angle

how can you have a legal SS number if you're not a citizen?

please advise!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I am with you on this one, apextiger. No reason they should get benefits in the first place.

I scanned the link quickly maybe too quickly. My question is

Are all these religious organizations who bring over all these refugees/immigrants now going to be responsible for them?

Or

Are we talking about someone like the 90 Day Fiancee type of thing where you are responsible for them for 10 years? That is symplified but basically what it is.

So much fricked up immigration laws. The actual decent laws that are in place are useless because the state won't back them. This is a good start though.

You left out the best part- they won't let border states secure their border, cause that's a Fed job, that the feds won't do. It's so crazy it's almost unbelievable...but it's fact

The Magnificent Orange SOB just keeps winning!

With declassification and this, only an announcement of impeachment could make this week better!
