This is about buying from anyone but China. Vietnam, India, Columbia, Brazil, Haiti... All acceptable. Just not China.

What happens if US companies don't move out of China?
My guess is that business would suffer. Those stocks (really overinflated in many cases) will probably go down in value.
The political casualties would seem to be the tech companies and their respective stock holders. I would imagine quite a few pensions are linked to these companies.
My guess is that this is a "reiteration" of how things are going to change via a warning (order?). In other words...in order to effectively negotiate with the enemy (and imho...China IS the enemy), we have to be prepared to actually back up our ultimatum with action. While I don't think we leave China anytime soon, I would hazard a guess that the "alternate sourcing option" being explored by US companies in China are no longer just hypotheticals on the back burner. I guess we will see.

Trump singled out the carriers to bring attention to fentanyl and where it comes from. Not to blast FedEx, UPS, et al although it may appear that way.

I literally quoted congressional testimony by the executive director of the Office of Field Operations at U.S. Customs and Border Patrol, his experience trumps how how you feel. And most fentanyl from that area gets here in that manner, so it's not really that narrow of a scope. Most would see it as a leading indicator.

I'm afraid that with the current insanity in this country, that doesn't fly anymore. We have Razor companies thinking their major market is women with beards. We have sporting goods companies offending a significant portion of their sporting customers. We are not in rational times.
