Let's give him the benefit of the doubt and say he was being sarcastic (which I don't believe). Is this something a President should being saying at a news conference when over 50,000 Americans have died? Why can't Republican legislators see this is doing damage to the Republican party that will take many years to recover from?

No one forced him to say it. The guy was serious- you can tell the way he looked to the side and asked the DR. questions. There's no way to sugarcoat it. As someone who has voted Republican 95% of the time, I'm very afraid the Republican party and those who blanketly support Trump are hurting the cause of conservatism in for many years. He is NO Ronald Reagan and really is a very poor representative of the party. Wish he would resign and let Pence take over.

I also know he wasn't just asking a sarcastic question to reporters.

I saw the video and it was a stupid comment to one of his team. Of course anyone who wonders if they should inject disinfectant is an idiot, but it was still a stupid comment. There's no reason to defend it. He has a propensity to say stupid things, fortunately I think he's right most of the time on policy.
Blind loyalty to any leader regardless of where you fit on the spectrum is a dangerous thing.
