Just watched a Forbes youtube video.
At 1:25 he says he will close the Dept of ED - previously he said he would increase its budget and gave this pipe dream about new programs would save the day.
Let's see - overwhelming sentiment on this board is to close it. I was the first candidate to say so officially, then Vivek, and now Trump.
It's good to see him pull his head out of the clouds and finally realize you can't just throw money at things and hope they get better.
I suspect RFK Jr will not be in favor of shutting down that department. Obviously Biden would never support that. Other than Vivek, I don't think anyone else in the Republican field has endorsed that plan.
As long as a non-Dem wins this election, we may have a good shot at removing this department from the federal government.

You’re probably right to some extent. It’s blatantly obvious that Trump’s political decisions are driven by his perception of the population’s reaction.
It’s exactly why he can’t win elections anymore. He doesn’t understand how or why being beloved by the 35% of the Republicans who flood online forums doesn’t garner broader support.

We’ll if he does choose to offer closing the DOE, he’d better promise to put that money into paying for exceptional teachers. Otherwise many who find the ‘Woke’ madness detestable, will vote DOE/the money.

Last election, Trump said multiple times, including during a debate, that he would close the Dept. of Ed. He didn’t. I’m a huge Trump fan, but he’s full of shite on this one.

Reagan promised to abolish the Dept of Ed in 1982.
Edit: maybe promise is too strong a word. He called for it to be abolished.
