I look forward to arguments about whether there is judicial review of what constitutes a lunatic or idiot or instead whether the administration has unfettered discretion to declare that (imagine AOC with this power!).

Question, if a known 'convict, lunatic, idiot, or other person unable to care of himself or herself without becoming a public charge' were to say, take a Carnival cruise, do we have to allow them back in?

I like where your heads at. If there were a Congressional cruise, I'm not sure there would be enough left for a quorum...which would probably be a good thing.

In this case, we're talking about not letting people into our country. So when you say that we really should not use this law to prevent actual idiots from entering the country now because AOC might declare a different group of immigrants unfit in the future, it really makes no sense.
We should let in all manner of idiots on welfare now because AOC might ban white, productive immigrants in the future? What group of foreigners do we desperately want here that AOC would declare as unfit?
Even so, it's still fewer immigrants. It's more higher paying jobs for Americans. This is as close to a no-lose situation as you can get.
"We can't make the country better because democrats might act out in the future" is a popular argument to maintain the status quo among conservatives, but it really doesn't have any legs in this scenario.
