so the other 70% of the Republican party would identify as not religious/agnostic/etc?

There you have it.
A simple explanation that makes sense. What a nothingburger this all was. Yawn.

As much as I have historically swallowed all the nonsense, this explanation was ridiculous and people who buy it are retarded.

would you not agree that if they identifty as "religious" , since they identify that way, principles should be a factor in selecting someone to represent you in a government?

some agnostic, some dont care.
given the "holier than thou" performance that Republicans cosplay as, how big of a crowd of this group would you say ACTUALLY makes up the Republcian party....
the simple fact is, devout or not, a large majority of Republicans identify as "Christian"... as a Christian, character is supposed to matter... principles are supposed to matter... integrity is supposed to matter... all 3 of those characteristics are completely foreign to Trump...
so again, had these "Christians" actually voted based on their self-proclaimed beliefs, devout or not, there's no way Trump should have been their nominee

honestly, i don't think even the most MAGA of all the MAGA crew actually, TRULY believes that stupid arse excuse...
it's just that, just like Trump, they are unable to admit fault or wrongdoing, b/c to do that would be an indication of being wrong about something, and in his and thier worldview, they are not and can never be just that... wrong

quote:Yes, but his results and defense of Christian principles, even if pandering, have been a positive.

For Trump to post an inappropriate picture painting himself as Jesus, delete it and make up some ridiculous, stupid excuse? You voted for that?

i agree... they abandoned principles for power... they didn't care how misaligned the candidate was, to their own values as long as he could deliver them what they wanted most, and that was pure, unabashed power....

if pandering
if?

defense of Christian principles
wut?? the man is trying to make a buck off selling his brand of Bibles and wants to wipe out an entire nation of people... yeah, tell me more about him defending Christian principles...

one day, it may be far down the line, but one day, some of these same people that are so staunch in their defense, and dismissive about the missteps and wrong doing, are going to silently say to themselves, b/c they wouldn't have the balls to admit it to another human being, but they'll say to themselves, how did i ever actually go along with this stupidity?

which every single other candidate in 2016 also campaigned on... let's not act like Trump had the novel idea of overturning Roe...
again, the "religious right" decided to place power over principles when selecting Trump, but yet they still want to try to claim the moral authority....
that abject hypocrisy is not unnoticed
