This is a dumb idea. He came out and said no CBDC, and here he is getting rid of hard currency. If it costs too much to produce a penny, find a cheaper penny.
We need more real currency circulating, not less. If they take hard currency out of circulation, making your life a digital one because easier. Once your life is digital, you are a slave.

However pennies are produced, they're still unnecessary coinage in our time.

Coin and currency denominations have come, and been retired on numerous occasions in the history of our republic. We no longer spend half cents, two-cent pieces, three-cent pieces, and twenty cent pieces. These were all commonplace in the 1800's, but fell into disuse long before 1900 and were no longer issued by the U.S. Mint. Also, in my youth half-dollar coins were commonplace and circulated everywhere.
Now they're no longer minted except for collector's items.

The penny coin today, is otiose. Nobody wants 'em.

Please tell me how kids and poor people are synonymous? Are you talking about a certain group of people?

Do most kids have jobs with incomes? I’ve yet to meet one who does and I taught elementary school for close to a decade years ago.

Unfortunately Cubbies you have seen first hand when Kids are brought into a world where their is a single parent and they are just a number. These kids are brought into a world where statistically they will have a higher at chance of being incarcerated or not making it to their eighteenth birthday. We live in a society where shitty people are rewarded for making bad decisions when it comes to having children. The more you have and stay single the more money you get from the government. Marriage is not rewarded so nothing changes and yes statically it can be proven certain demographics fall below the poverty level resulting in children having a harder time due to the fact their parent or parents made bad decisions.

Could be dealing with what most of us do instead

Wife: oooo that purse is cute

Clerk: that'll be $780.67

Wife: doesn't even hear the price, swipes card

I remember a friend in maybe 1994 , saying he just threw away pennies. They were worthless in weight in pants to value ratio.

I was wondering why he had this giant penny sitting behind him last week. Makes sense now.

Probably not. There are a lot of pennies still in circulation. Plus most people go cashless these days.
