Way to “liberate” the Iranian people from their oppression.

Freedom looks like obliterating their power grid. They must be so excited and grateful for Napoleon Bonaspur to send American servicemen to die while bombing the Iranian people.

What can they do that we cannot stop?

Here is a practical idea to answer that question. Open your eyes and look at what they have already done that we in fact could not stop.

They have said in response to this threat that they will completely close the strait if we attack civilian energy infrastructure

What some very low IQ people don't understand is they do have levers they can pull as well. And we're pretending that they don't because we have superior fire power. It's classic stupidity that makes things worse for everyone.

So thank God we announced the strike ahead of time so we can recalibrate our strategy if we want too?

Thanks for showing how Trump making this announcement was a good thing.

No they can’t stop it, but they will do the same to the rest of the middle east, it’s an idiotic threat of escalation that will end in disaster if trump does it (which i dont think he will) the economic results will be devastating

They’ve already said what they will do.

Can we stop them?

BREAKING: Iran responds to President Trump's threat to "obliterate" Iranian power plants if the Strait of Hormuz is not opened "within 48 hours." Iran's response: 1. Iran will "completely close" the Strait of Hormuz 2. Iran will hit “vital” infrastructure in the Middle East 3. This includes energy, IT, and water desalination facilities 4. Iran’s senior military commander says the country’s military strategy has shifted from defensive to offensive 5. Iranian officials say the country has enough reserves of essential goods to last for up to one year Trump's deadline has 33 hours remaining.

They don’t care if he bombs power plants, which he won’t. I wish he would send in some special ops and eliminate the leadership.

We don't have enough information now to state whether it's strategically good or bad because we don't know the future

Convincing yourself that you can predict the future to state in real time whether something is good or bad is a fool's errand.

If we are so energy independent, why has gas gone up a buck ten here in the past two weeks?

Okay.

Any reason why you didn't tell the person that said Trump's announcement was a bad idea the same thing?

Because it's a globally priced commodity. It was predictable by literally every person on the planet that our involvement in Iran would cause shocks to energy prices. If anyone tells you that this wasn't a predictable outcome you should never take them seriously on any topic again. Even people in support of the war knew it would happen.

Very little, from an overall standpoint.
And what we didn't stop hit Isreal, is not a product used to hit tankers, right?

Theoretically, yes. But HOW? Thats my question...what are they using to hold that threat? What weapons? Why can we guard against it?

It's against our own DoD policy.[link=(chrome-extension://efaidnbmnnnibpcajpcglclefindmkaj/https://www.esd.whs.mil/Portals/54/Documents/DD/issuances/dodi/300017p.pdf)]LINK[/link]

I’ve already answered this. Mines, missiles, and drones. Tankers are not going to risk attempting to get through because of the risk that they could get hit. It’s asymmetrical warfare.

A short lived energy price shock would be worth it to take out Iran.

One that lasts many years because key infrastructure across the ME is wiped out is not worth it IMO.

I really don’t think Trump would have started this if he thought there was a possibility it would lead to worldwide economic depression that he would be blamed for.

I know that.

I also know the Exxon-Mobils of the world will take every opportunity to increase their profit margin.

Thankfully we have not lifted Finger 1 to move off fossil fuels and, in fact, are barreling toward making coal great again.
