And still doesn't provide an actual quote from Trump with any context.

I didn't see where Trump said it but a quick search:

quote:

YEAR-TO-DATE:

So far this year (as of January 25), Philadelphia has had 27 homicides.

That's a 37 percent increase from the same date in 2016.
It's also higher than the same date each year going back to 2012, when there were 30 homicides by January 25.

FULL YEAR:

Looking at homicide numbers by year shows Philadelphia was down from 280 in 2015 to 277 in 2016.

However, that's higher than both 2014 and 2013, which had 248 homicides and 246 homicides, respectively. There were 331 homicides in 2012.

Exactly. It doesn't make him a bad president or anything. He was wrong. Not egregiously wrong. Not a harmful lie. Probably not intentional. But wrong. Whatever. No need to white knight and pretend that trump will never be wrong. It only lessens our credibility.

And message board credibility is very important.

He wasn't wrong about what he said. The way he said it makes it very clear that what he said after "steady" is just a conclusion to his total statement.

If he thought Philadelphia's murder rate was increasing, why didn't he say "Philadelphia's murder rate is increasing?" No, he said "Here in Philadelphia, the murder rate has been steady- I mean - just terribly increasing." It is very clear that these are two different trains of thought.

I agree I don't think he was intentionally wrong. I just don't think he knew. He saw a high crime rate, wanted to emphasize it without realizing that over the past decade crime rate has been steadily decreasing. And honestly I don't think he realized that the murder rate is at its third lowest in more than 20 years in Philadelphia . But if he's going to say things like he said, as president of the United States he should know. The problem is he sometimes speaks off the cuff and will be incorrect and sometimes blatantly wrong

He was wrong in this case, but given the data on almost every other city, it's not an unreasonable assumption to make.

maybe so, but he needs to understand as president you cant do that before you speak, your words have consequences

Youtube clip of Trump's speech. If it doesn't start at the right time, go to 22 minutes, 22 seconds.

Wait so the murder rate is actually up 37%? Mother of God, that seems like a terrible increase doesn't it?

Yeah because I was fully expecting complete support here and I was not expecting anyone, not even one person, to bend over backwards to defend and rationalize his statements

insulting the entire police force protecting him while he said it

starting a rift with the administration of Philly

those may seem petty to some here, and are minor in the grand scheme of things

but my point was Trump needs to learn to read a few notes, take some counsel before he speaks. I watched a pundit tonite that had worked thru three admins and he mentioned that all three wanted to say things at times they just couldnt because of they understood the ramifications.

Unfortunately I think we are stuck with years of campaign Trump

hilly is consistently (but not increasingly) dangerous, so he was partially mistaken.

He said the murder rate in Philadelphia was terribly increasing. I watched the video and he definitely meant Philadelphia when he used words terribly increasing. No one would have had a problem with it had he not added those two words that are blatantly false . Or at least they should not have had a problem with it
