Murder rate is up 37% this year. I'm sure the police are as frustrated about it as anyone.

Did he say "over the last decade"??

Honestly asking.

He said the murder rate in Chicago and Philly is "massively increasing".

Philly police cite last years stats and say that the city murder rate has not risen. 2017 stats say that they are up 37%.

That's what I thought. It got added in to defend an argument.

Yeah in less than a month. If you want to go that route, then during the last five days there have been less. So he still wrong . If you bend over backwards I can bend over backwards further.

That's not the issue. He didn't say a time table, so you can't make one up to defend a position.

This is a fact that proved that it's not a blatant lie as you called it.

Good try

I watched a pundit tonite that had worked thru three admins and he mentioned that all three wanted to say things at times they just couldnt because of they understood the ramifications.

This. All day and night . Unfortunately only a select few here will admit that . Many will continue to rationalize any and every Miisstatement that he makes.

And some will create threads all of their own to rationalize any misstatements that he has made

So you are denying that the murder rate is up 37% in the city of Philadelphia?

That was more incoherent than lying IMO. @real had just stated that the murder rate in the 30 largest cities has increased by 14% in the last year (true or false - I dunno), then he tried to make it specific by mentioning Philly since that's where he was, perhaps visibly realized that it didn't support his overall point, went back to it ("just terribly increasing"), and segued into Chicago, which does support his thesis.

Posting the most up to date stats available on the Philadelphia Police Department's website is cherry picking?

This is exactly what I was thinking. I honestly don't think he was talking about Philadelphia, specifically, when he said "terribly increasing." I think his sentence was just fragmented.

Let me see if I got this right. Obama began this term in office in Jan '13 (same month black lives matter was formed). Using the Philly police numbers, '13 had 246 murders. Obamas term ended post '16, which had 277 murders (in '15 there were 280). So if my math is correct that's an increase of close to 15%.

Now you may not consider 15% 'terribly increasing', but when its a bad thing for someone, 15% is 'terrible'

Now looking at Jan '17, compared to Jan '16, the murder rate is up 37%. So whether you want to look at a year to year trend, or a 4 year trend, murder rates are up 15-37% since the month BLM was formed

So you can choose whatever adjective you want to go with increasing, but increasing at a double digit pace = No Bueno. And could easily be defined as terribly increasing

Oh, and FYI, terribly means: fearfully, frightfully, appallingly, dire, horribly. So yeah, it fits in this scenario
