bullshite.

We already pay out the arse for all of those services with the unpredicted data we give these giants every day and the power advantage that the data generates for them.

What they chose to do with that data is their responsibility. If they choose to use that data to endlessly train giant AI superminds, they should be responsible for paying for that decision.

Because duh

Yea but you use hundreds of apps every single day that require data centers... so are you saying that you are going to completely remove all social media, AI, AI Apps, GPS, Apple/Google CarPlay, Netflix, phone apps, tv apps, internet, etc out of your life? If you aren't willing to remove all of that out of your life then you have no room to bitch at all about building new data centers. If you do have plans to completely remove all of that out of your life then you have every reason to bitch and moan about the data centers.. so which one is it that you plan to do?

You really are retarded. I wasn’t complaining about the existence of data centers. Go touch grass or something.

I'm not even concerned with the electricity usage, I'm more concerned with how much water these fricking things require. They were planning one near me and the water required almost tripled what the local water authority produced.

And it's shady as frick how they are going about trying to get these things approved, at least around here.

Bessemer? Yeah, that whole deal is shady as hell.

We also have an entire ocean that is filled with water. Now if the data centers use up all of the water in the ocean, then I might be a little concerned

I dont know if you're aware of this but we build ports, shipyard, and power plants beside water bodies for a reason dickhead.

If these things require that much water why build them away from a source of water?

I realize he said it and am very aware of their needs. It is beautiful a US POTUS had to enforce this. Without, I could see state PSC's and other local politicians giving the data centers whatever they want.

If I want to use an app then why should my electricity cost go up because a data center needs to be built? In the very least, the app can have a cost.

However, my electrical cost rate to heat, cool, light, or cook in my home should not go up because the rates have increased to accommodate data center profits.

Most of these companies are already building solar and battery plants to feed their data centers.

I will build a gas station in your neighbor hood so you can pay more for gas.

That doesn't make any sense.

Anything that requires energy requires infrastructure to run it. All the astounding technologies in your daily life that you no doubt take for granted require capital investment and maintenance to keep running so you can have it at a shockingly low marginal cost. There's nothing new or mysterious about this.

At the very least you should attempt to run a cost/benefit analysis. What if your power bill goes up by $50 but also you can use AI to do some task that normally costs you $50 on the other side? You act as if it's 100% only cost.

I noticed a big increase in electricity and water costs from 2021-24, but its been steady ever since. I actually got a credit from Alabama Power on my budget billing for 2025.

Southern Company is already doing this, but glad it's spreading.

Are you going back to before smart phones? Because we have been building data centers for quite a while now.

Mobile has seen about 29% inflation since 2015. Mostly driven by an annual true up vs a capex driven approach.

I do not use AI. Why would I want to use something artificial and programmed by a bunch of liberals?

I guess I will have to give up buying power and lubricate the old windmill, build a dam, and install some solar panels. I will see if he PSC will let me charge citizens a higher rate for my personal benefit.

Oh I see. You think they are going to build the data center and use up all of the water from the city reservoir. Okaaaay Mr Panican, whatever you say "dickhead"

You don't think data centers will have a massive effect on the water table in certain areas?
