But that was before populism reached a critical mass. It was before Trump was legitimately conspired against, had the DOJ weaponized against him, shot, etc. It was before the stuff that DOGE is turning up. It was before the Jan 6th miscarriage of justice.
It's not the same now as it was back in 2016.
Promise this stuff now, you better deliver.
My take is the opposite, and you see the argument here all the time. That stuff makes him more bulletproof to the faithful, not less. Those events extended his line of credit with the MAGA core.
Now I've also seen former faithful now asking WTF, and some of those will peel off, but Trump doesn't have to be elected again so he doesn't care.

Yep, its a talking point movement.
Maybe Trumps smarter than I thought, he seems to keep these guys occupied and supportive even though he's helped bankrupt the country once.

Youre going to be very very disappointed.

Bro, just look at them ignoring Trump's recent CR that gives us 6 more months of Biden-level spending. If they don't respond to THAT, the leash is long as shite.
*ETA: now they're celebrating Trump intentionally putting us into a major recession, on top of Biden's CR spending levels. Think about that combo in November 2024

Fun fact about presidential pardons. Jimmy Carter issued 200,000 pardons to Vietnam draft dodgers with Proclamation 4483

Void them all.

More influencer nonsense.
Youre going to be very disappointed, and worse, disillusioned.

You could be right, but a lot of people sure got upset over the Epstein file non-release.

I think he does care. I think his ego is such that he will always care. You're right that he doesn't have to worry about re-election, but Trump's primary motivation is and always has been his own fragile ego.

My graphic that I made referencing my own post that I made here on TD qualifies as 'influencer nonsense'?
Your attempts at flattery, while noted, will bear no effect.

They can blame Bondi for this and pretend if Gaetz were confirmed it would have been different.
To them, failures seem to reinforce the ideal that everyone is against him. Classic persecution complex.

Disillusionment crushes your values and ideals. Its not a lot of fun. I recommend starting the transition now to avoid a total breakdown in the future.

Read my first post.
I said promise ridiculous stuff.
Populists don't care about things like that. That's in the realm of actual policy. (Plus, did Trump ever promise to reduce spending? Not that I saw. Waste and fraud, yes, but not planned and approved spending).
I'm talking about Epstein files and usurping constitutional tradition (and possibly law) to dunk on Biden and prosecute the wrong-doers.
That's the stuff populists care about. They don't care about mundane stuff like tax policy or spending, unless there's a a narrative attached to it that includes a scandal perpetrated by societal Elites or Globalists or Deep State or Illuminati.

If Biden did not personally sign off on these pardons and had no idea they were happening, that is a serious problem. The president is supposed to be the one making these decisions, not some staffer with an autopen. If this is true, it makes you wonder what else is being handled without his knowledge.
One thing to consider is that presidents have used autopens before, but it has always been understood that they approved what was being signed. If Biden was completely unaware, that changes everything. It would mean someone else is running the show, which is not how this is supposed to work.
No matter how you look at it, if the president did not approve the pardons, they should not count. It is one thing to delegate tasks, but signing away legal consequences for people without even knowing about it is another level of incompetence.

Not a valid comparison. Murder isn't a constitutional issue it's a police power reserved to the states via the 10A.
If you want to get funky, it's also allegedly an interstate commerce issue.
