Right...but we don't have to do it the same as they did
No one said we need to import half of Syria as part of our immigration process

Mate what did you think of last night's programme? Host almost lost it when an old Middle School chum sent in a superchat and shared a fond memory.

No. An area that has been overran by illegal leeches from shithole countries.
Mostly from South America.

I am aware that many on this board are extremely exercised but the H1B visa program, the results of which are largely invisible to me. But in learning more about the program, I see that these visas are capped at 85k per year in industries that, as best I can tell, have low unemployment rates of 3 or 4% (depending on where you look and what sectors are considered). For these reasons, it is hard for me to see this in the same light as many on this board. I’d be interested in hearing some facts on the other side. In short, is this really a problem?

let's blame workers and not the companies paying the poverty wages

I'm really torn about the jeets. I mean, on the one hand, they're truly the kind of immigrants that really just want to come and work and contribute. That's admirable.
But like you said, it's a problem that they work for so much less, and it so greatly affects wages and the market. Plus, I fricking HATE having to call IS or any form of customer support and try to understand what Saanvi on the other end of the phone is saying. I can pretty easily hear English through most of the Hispanic and Latino accents, Middle-eastern and even most Asian accents and the myriad European accents. I actually love hearing African accents....
But the jeets, dammit, they might as well be speaking their own tongue with marbles in their mouths. For the life of me, I cannot understand them.
To circle back though, I said I'm "torn" about it, but that's only because of their willingness to actually come and work and not cause trouble. But if an American is qualified and ready to do the same job, there's no way in hell that a H1B applicant should be accepted in their stead. In fact, that's quite clearly one of the finite rules of the H1B program itself.

“America First” was never meant for working and middle class people. He serves the billionaire class and the tech feudal lords want their cheap foreign labor. Elon would never allow him to mess with H1B.

Probably not the best idea with our birth rates
The alternative is to bring in all these foreigners and then just have that many more people on welfare once AI starts the mass layoffs.
We need to be planning for the future. With AI, the foolish idea that we must continually grow our population can finally be put to rest. We do not need to be importing more future welfare recipients.

Don’t want to end it. We need to refocus it so that it meets its original mission instead of being a method of labor market arbitrage.
We want to set the salary floor to $150,000-$180,000 and index it to inflation. It should be here for the best and brightest. Not for a cheaper alternative to college new hires.
That level salary should all but eliminate companies abusing the H1B and developing entry level talent overseas instead of domestic talent from flyover country.
And you can deny that companies pull shite like that now with entry level $75,000-$85,000/year jobs….but I’ve seen them do it. I was a partner at one San Mateo based company that frustratingly did this for all but 2 employees (including me)- the rest were German, Chinese, etc. And I’m living in an unfortunate reality I helped create as I struggle to staff a project with US citizen resources that don’t exist because we never developed them as a country.
H1B must be reformed. I’m glad that Trump moved the needle there a little, but he didn’t go far enough.

No he cant. A federal judge would rule against it. A courtesy to the tech billionaires that ally and own the left right now.
Trump cannot pet a dog right now without a federal injunction.

Why not take this easy layup to help change the narrative if this administration truly is America First? Why do we need hordes of foreigners working entry and mid level tech jobs when thousands of Americans are being laid off daily and are being shut out from the job market?
I'll say it until I'm blue in the face. If nothing is done to make a major dent in sending people back then I will have trouble supporting Vance for a 28 run.
If they don't stop the destruction of our culture, I don't care about all his platitudes about protecting Western Civ

Agreed. None of these guys have ever met first or second generation Vietnamese-American or East Indian Americans? They’ve meshed beyond well.
Last year, I met my new doctor - a great guy whose parents came over from Iran. First thing he said when he walked in was “I was born and raised here in this part of town.” Really sad that has to reassure every white American man that he meets is he’s local and not a foreigner. Good times.
What is kind of funny about the H1B backlash…. the very same people that hate DEI absolutely love eliminating this visa. Who cares where someone is from? Why aren’t we hiring the best person for the job?!?!?

He’s probably sitting there looking at how stupid most Americans are - Tuesday was exhibit A
Maybe American young men can stop watching YouTube all day and go make something of themselves and not rely on a president to do it for them.

Because he thinks that is bad policy. He is against it, and he has said so.
If we stop all immigration this upside down population pyramid will determine the fate of America, and it isn’t good.
The result would be the collapse of the social security system, a giant retraction of the US taxbase, a deep recession, and a Democrat sweep of the House and Senate in 2026. Good luck getting Trump to do that.
