Both parents do not have to work. Both parents have to work when both parents refuse to reduce their lifestyle to fit within one income. My wife stayed at home with our children even back when I only made $60k/year. We owned a home and we saved with just my income. It’s possible, but not if one insists on newer cars and homes they cannot afford and vacations they cannot afford.

There's better ways of boosting birth rates than having the IRS hand out $5k/each.

Raise the (laughably low) limit for dependent care accounts, or extend FMLA to paid status for 12 weeks.

How about instead of giving money to people to have kids do something like Hungary did and make a portion of their income tax free for every child they have and do away with the Child Tax Credit

Stupid idea and here’s why:

It will only incentivize people who make poor financial decisions to have a kid. Because 5K won’t go far in the grand scheme of things as far as raising a child 18 years so it won’t move the needle for middle/upper middle class families, which are who you want to reproduce. It will however make poor people reproduce more. The same people who give H&R Block 30% of their tax refund in order to get the refund today rather than wait a few weeks to get the full refund from the IRS. We don’t need more future welfare queens and gangbangers

I think for families whose income is from 40k-250k per year who have two or more kids get their income tax reduced by 5%. So say you make 100k a year and pay roughly 25% federal taxes. You’d now only pay 20% if you have two kids. That’s 5k extra a year. That would make a difference

This could work if you live in the boonies and stop saving for retirement, 529's, and get a bank that's willing to defer payment for a few months.

Gotta be married. Female has to give birth.

Something separate for adoptions.

Something negative, like a fine, for abortions.

Be specific. What about the proposal is socialist and/or Marxist? Again. Be specific.

Won’t work. Scandinavian countries have excellent benefits to incentivize parenthood and their birth rates have only continued to decrease. What we are seeing are women deciding to have either less or no children because they want to walk a different path. How do you change that? I have no idea

If I had paid maternity leave for even 12 weeks, I’d have another baby. I think mandated paid mat leave would help a lot in the USA.

I did this for 3 years on a 100K salary with one kid and it was rough as frick. And I had a bunch of help from family. And I wasn't making out OR saving any money during that time because it wasn't physically possible.

My wife went back to work after the second one, and it is alot more comfortable...but we got a good deal on a daycare.

Where and when (time period?) are you talking about 60K/year to do that same thing.

Fedgov employees get that benefit.

Still don't see them having tons of kids

Yeah, no. Pay for your own damn kids. No reason why single/unmarried people should have to subsidize other people’s kids.

There’s 8 billion people on this planet, and 350 million people in this country with astronomic housing costs. Not to mention the fact we’re the verge of an AI revolution that’s going to eliminate the need for most people’s labor. We don’t need a kajillion people and never ending population growth anymore.

Incredibly stupid idea. Aren't enough baby-mamas living in subsidized poverty ignoring kids they don't give a shite about other than government money? It's just making more crime farms.

Exactly. No way to incentive nuclear family households without incentiving single mother hood along with it. Juice definitely not worth the squeeze.
