no DJT. I am looking to borrow 500k to pay off my house, I mean get my masters in 18th century lesbian poetry and have the government forgive all student debt.

Yeah, I think that’s prudent. Far Left will bitch and whine, but I think most Americans can see how this is a good idea.

They should be capped or, better yet, done away with for worthless degrees.

don’t know that I’d want to see a hard cap across the board (med school can cross the $250k threshold easily and most will have the means to repay), but I think it’s absolutely good government to bring some analysis of risk of non-repayment back into the equation.

Loans are based on incomes and credit, I get most college students don’t have much credit history but they should make a formula where the cap is say 150% of the average salary of each degree. So if you take a gender studies major which yields on average 40k a year in income post grad, you can’t borrow over 60k

Grad school is not that expensive... I am paying right now less than $3k/course for my grad class.

Do people really not have that kind of money to just pay in cash?

I would rather see the govt subsidize programs that have industry demand. Engineering, finance, law, medicine, accounting...

well many policy ideas of leftists literally boil down to assuming people can't make their own decisions

this regulation falls directly in line with that philosophy (and is a major argument by leftists for loan forgiveness pretty regularly)

Tuition has sky rocketed in universities because of this arms race of amenities and even athletics

Correction:
Tuition has skyrocketed because the govt made unlimited money to pay for it available to everyone. In basic economics if you can make more money servicing an unending supply customers with an uncapped amount of cash then you increase the rate dramatically till the demand falls.
All this while making an entire generation life long servants.

Understand that the unit cost for an extra student at any college or professional school is almost nothing. The facilities were built long ago and that tuition is pure profit. Set a cap and watch the tuition rates magically come way down.

Not a bad idea. University co-signing would force them to consider the merit of some degrees over others, and make them give a better effort to get their students jobs

Not everyone needs to go to college.

We need to break this mindset that you need to have a degree to be successful as we have way too many people in college right now to the point where a lot of degrees are rapidly becoming worthless.

Policy makers for YEARS have been harping on the the fact that loan money is to easy to obtain for college students

Do yourself a favor and read the Bennett hypothesis

Government should not be in business of lending. Let private sector do it.
