Republicans better not touch my $250,000 loan for my Gender Studies Degree or I will explode in anger and protest at UC Berkley and maybe Stanford too!
Fox Business for the Trigger Impaired
The White House on Monday proposed a cap on federal student loans — part of a broader initiative intended to curb the rising cost of higher education.
In a blueprint to reform the Higher Education Act, a 1965 law, the Trump administration suggested limiting loans taken out by graduate students and parents of undergraduates to help pay for college or trade school. It’s unclear what the exact loan cap would be, but according to the Hill, it could vary by program rather than institution.
“Unfortunately, many colleges and universities have not been providing Americans the education they need to succeed in a cost-effective manner,” White House press secretary Sarah Sanders said in a statement Opens a New Window. on Tuesday.

Great news
I posted this earlier this month in a response about millennials and student loans.
s a 28yr old that has 30k in student debt and came from a family that defines middle class, I despise what has become of the educational loan system. I’ve already paid off $10k in my few years post grad. I am not even remotely in the same group as the entirety of my generation. I’m looking forward to paying for every penny of the choice I made and signed off on.
Tuition has sky rocketed in universities because of this arms race of amenities and even athletics. I hate that college is being pushed to ever single fricking person.
I hope a presidential nominee has the balls to cut off the Fed loan program. Grandfather some in as a plan and shut the valve off 3-5yrs later.

Dems need to keep the leg irons on as many folks as possible....it's what their whole system is based on. Then they swoop in and save the day, so they claim...

I don’t know that I’d want to see a hard cap across the board (med school can cross the $250k threshold easily and most will have the means to repay), but I think it’s absolutely good government to bring some analysis of risk of non-repayment back into the equation.

Liberals are too dumb to realize its student loans that make college so expensive

Student loan reform baby! The man is a genius sometimes. Sorry, libs. Running up the deficit and blaming it on conservatives is BS. Enjoy your lack of BS electives and take your STEM like a man, beeotch!

As someone with 350k in loan debt (med school) I’m okay with this. I do think the cost of college has spiraled out of control and these colleges fleece dumb, impressionable kids.

Need to make the max you can borrow the cost of attendance at the most expensive public school per state.
There is no reason the government should be on the hook for expensive private school tuition.
So for Louisiana, if you went to Tulane, you could only borrow the amount it costs to go to LSU.
Private school tuition would plummet.

Max the loan out in comparison to the average taxable income of a graduate with that degree after 5 years post graduation.

They should push for no cap on learning to code majors

STEM Majors: No Cap
Gender/Race Studies: $5.00

Have a cap for a bachelor's, and a separate cap for a JD, MD, etc.
