As soon as one minimizes the seriousness of sin, no sooner do we remove the need of a Savior.

Sounds like they're preaching loving another despite their sins. Good for them.

The actual age in which we live, is an age in need of a biblical purge.

I'm starting to see that we'll get just that.

Preaching that the audience will burn for eternity is how to get them to walk away.

TGC is devolving along a predictable arc.

Having said that, the tweet is pretty standard pablum. It’s silly in that the Gospel isn’t about making people feel their own worth.

You certainly get a bigger crown by psychologizing the Gospel. Jesus isn’t the God of Self-Help or Self-Actualization.

The Christian faith calls for repentance. That statement, as fluffy as it sounds, is a blanket excuse which is where a lot of the swaying pop concert churches are. From a theological standpoint, it's empty and not in line with the gospel. From a philosophical standpoint, it's the usual self-help fluff that demands no responsibility for actions or choices.

They can do as they like, but it takes more guts to believe in something difficult than cross out the parts you don't like.

What makes a person a Christian is the acknowledgement that they are sinners, that what they do is bad, and that they need to repent from said sins. Ultimately you are to recognize you are incapable of earning your way into heaven, instead you need to acknowledge Jesus as your Savior. Without Him, you have no chance.

I never understand why so many churches say Jesus will forgive your sins, except for sucking cock, he won't forgive no gay shite. Jesus don't play that. The preacher can frick Steve's wife and that will be forgiven. But we can't abide for Timmy and Tommy to be a couple happy queers.

The communist 'long march through the institutions' is well at hand, now having infiltrated almost all Christian churches.

i read an instagram post by them discussing "my company is taking up money and having us sign a card for a gay couple getting married. i'm being targeted for not joining in."

LINK

their response bothered me a bit at the beginning, but it took more of the turn at the end. on part of the article not quoted by the OP.

quote:

Allberry encourages Christians not to shy away from what the Bible says about sexuality while also not having a godless and aggressive reaction to those with a differing worldview.

i.e. don't change your beliefs to the world, but there's no cause to be needlessly antagonistic about it.

that's a good philosophy, but the world is going to be antagonistic for just not contributing to a wedding card that you don't agree with.

the main point that the author does not get at succinctly, is that homosexuality is not the sin condemning them to hell, it's their unbelief. attacking them for being gay makes no sense, because it's just a outward sign of their inner decay.

Gospel Coalition has had a few articles where i disagreed with them politically and on some race (BLM) issues, but regarding the trans and LGBT issues, they've been pretty consistent.

I know a lady at our church that writes for them that is very progressive but has maintained a biblical worldview on lgbt, abortion, and trans issues. Wildly disagree with her on race, financial, and other social issues, but on those inarguable ones, she's solid.

Knowing what TGC (at least used to) stand for, I’ll give them the benefit of the doubt that a) we assume everyone is a sinner, so no proof is required, and b) that proof to people of their worth is that their worth is imputed to them via the work of Christ on the Cross and in his life. He died the death we should have died and lived the life we should have lived.

Not the best worded Tweet though in this moaralistic age we DO indeed live in. How does he say we don’t live in a moralistic age? Virtue signaling, PC and wokeism are the very definition of moralism.

Seems more like an attention grabbing headline than anything. There is nuance to the conversation but it should not come at the cost of the reality of sin and need for repentance. TGC is supposed to be pretty good from what I know, have they started to fall off recently?

We cannot have 'b' without 'a.'

quote:

"...but God shows his love for us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us." -Romans 5:8

Recognizing our sinful nature is the first step before coming before God in repentance having then realized what Christ had to go through in order to reconcile us with the Father. Sin absolutely cannot and should not be minimized, obfuscated and/or removed from the conversation.

in my opinion they have had some difficulty handling the BLM movement gracefully. they've stayed pretty solid on abortion and lgbt issues.

i am not going to say my opinions or beliefs on race based on my biblical worldview are better than other believers' differing worldview. for the most part, i understand where their contributors are coming from, we just don't land on the same side on a few things.

To me this seems almost like TGC is inviting clicks. The underlying substance is largely fine, the title/theme make it seem worse than it is.

Most churches are nothing more than social justice organizations.

Its a materialistic age, even religion is materialistic and not spiritual.

Never been to a church that said that. This is just another in a long line of anti-religious/atheistic caricatures of what they think church is broadly based on a single interaction with some Bible belt grandmother who was born in the 1930s.

This is one of those things that gets thrown out, but no one has actually ever heard a church say Christ didn't die for the sin of homosexuality.

You can argue churches are too laser focused on homosexuality and maybe there is truth there, but there is also some legitimate reason why an unrepented "lifestyle" gets more attention than periodic sin which one presumably can evade, reject, and repent for.
