Chicago isn't really Yankee in the context I am speaking of. Chicago is Midwestern.

I am surprised nobody, especially the older posters did not mention Tiananmen Square. That was a revolt that got crushed on live TV in Primetime.

I honestly don't remember it getting a ton of coverage. All I really remember is seeing the image of the guy walking out in front of the tank.

It was prime time coverage on the 3 majors especially when the riots got really big.

The Friday Night they shut it down it was being carried live on all of the channels.

O.J. Simpson should be a separate category - the prolonged nature of the coverage
take any moment in time and it was covered wall to wall like any other event.

that it dragged on for 2 years and still held the same interest just makes it more impressive.

hard copy, dateline, 20/20...network news. cnn was wall to wall for 2 years. they cut from an nba finals game to cover the bronco chase

and while we're at it, the bronco chase is the single best piece of fricking television EVER especially if you were watching ABC. yes looky here dis be Robert Higgins. I see Oj.

I guess I vaguely do remember it, I just didn't pay it much attention. And I was older at the time, around 16 or 17.

I never saw the Bronco Chase. I was flying back to Springfield from someplace. Did not have a clue to what was happening.

I think I was at DFW and flying back. I recall there being a lot of Nigerians because the World Cup was about to start.

Hard to pick just three...

Off the top of my head in no particular order:

Persian Gulf War
Collapse of the Soviet Union
9/11 and subsequent conflicts
Katrina
2016 Presidential election

You missed out. My dad and I listened to it on the radio then watched it when we got home. When some prank caller got on the line with peter Jennings we were hysterically laughing all night

1. 9/11
2. Princess Diana's death
3. Katrina

I'm doing this based on the amount of coverage over a short period of time. Trump has been covered for almost two full years ad nauseum, so it'd be hard to call that an "item."

I remember Waco and Oklahoma City like it was yesterday from my childhood as well.

This one is an overlooked gem. Man it was insane

You can really judge these things by the crossover between news and entertainment/pop culture. If you were on Seinfeld that was it. 9/11 was weird because every medium and genre of anything had to address it. Comics, tv shows, sporting events, etc. that's why i put it #1

1. 9/11
2. Trump getting elected
3. OJ Simpson

Was born in 1985. Was alive for the OJ Simpson debacle, but was in elementary school, so I don't remember it as well as the other two events.

Agreed.

I still say OJ Simpson was our first "official" SJW/PC movement. This is when the left realized they could play the race card on literally ANYTHING, even something as blatant as murder, and get away with it.

And (3) still isn't over...
