I bet he doesn't realize that our climate change policy helped manufacturing to move to china where they've doubled their coal power plants over the last 15 years...

Manufacturing, mining, smelting, oil production, oil refining - pretty much everything is far cleaner in the US than any site in the 2nd or 3rd worlds, and about half of the 1st world.

I lived in DC for ten years. It wasn't terrible, but I'm guessing this guy--like any sane person there--isn't taking risks. He lives in a nice part of town, and when he approaches the borderlands or a Metro station he has his head on a swivel, doesn't make eye contact and gets out quickly. He's just used to it, and doesn't realize what his real-world risks are.
