He was in Ukraine to do the interview and the US Embassy told Zelensky he was not allowed to do it.
The only source I have seen of that information is Russian state Pravda.

There is no way the US can prevent a journalist from doing an interview, shoot, Pol-Pot, Stalin and Hitler were interviewed back in the day.

Yep. Not that I think Russia today is any better than the USSR was... but we certainly have fallen a great ways. We used to invade countries that act like us.
We have certainly fallen a great ways and Russia indeed has serious flaws.
But the USSR and Russia today differ fundamentally and greatly in one critical enveloping point:
The Soviet Union was committed to spreading the ideology and control of communism throughout the world through violence. Their belief system in communism was in direct conflict with our belief system in capitalism.
That is no longer the case. Russia is not a communist state dedicated to spreading communism throughout the world.

Either way, why is Tucker consorting with the enemy? It’s unamerican at best, treasonous at worst.
Trump should reel him in and handle Putin himself beginning in January.
I disagree. He should talk to Putin and Lavrov. But he should not ask open-ended questions and let them ramble unchallenged.

True, but Russia, like many "great powers" wants to spreak if not communism that "Russianism" far and wide. In my country they support Russian language schools, tv stations and radio stations. Why? For linguistic presence and overall "influence" over our society.

I don't care what he says, he said one thing in private and then a completely different thing in public four years ago.

Carlson on Trump
These are all private texts mentioning Trump that Carlson sent on January 4, 2021, as revealed by legal documents made public on Tuesday:
"We are very, very close to being able to ignore Trump most nights."
"I truly can't wait."
"I hate him passionately. I blew up at [former Trump adviser] Peter Navarro today in frustration. I actually like Peter. But I can't handle much more of this."
"He was pushing voting fraud stuff. I have no doubt there was fraud. But at this point, Trump and [pro-Trump lawyers] Lin [Wood] and [Sidney] Powell have so discredited their own case, and the rest of us to some extent, that it's infuriating. Absolutely enrages me."
"That's the last four years. We're all pretending we've got a lot to show for it, because admitting what a disaster it's been is too tough to digest. But come on. There isn't really an upside to Trump."
On October 30, 2020, Carlson had accused mainstream media reporters of hating Trump with an "all-consuming mania," suggesting that the then-president couldn't catch a break from negative coverage.
The legal filings made public on Tuesday have also revealed that Rupert Murdoch, chairman of the media empire that owns Fox News, didn't believe that Dominion's voting machines had been rigged, while these same claims were made on air by the news channel's hosts.
In one email submitted as evidence, Murdoch said that some of his hosts had perhaps gone "too far," specifically mentioning Sean Hannity and Laura Ingraham. Legal filings also showed Hannity, in an exchange with Fox and Friends host Steve Doocy, mocking Fox News journalists wanting to cover the "straight news," saying that "you don't p*** off the base."

No
Russia is in some ways a time capsule to what we used to be like. It's imperfect because the Slavs are just different, and Orthodoxy is very different. Being there made me homesick for a world that no longer exists though.
One of the major repercussions of WW2 was the rise of the ex Bolsheviks in the USA and the West generally.

Actually, no it is not. When I was forming/founding my advertising/radio/tv/internet company 30 years ago in what was then still a very Slavic Latvia I was warned by a half dozen people that I should be careful, not that anything would be done to me in terms of shooting or beating me up (all that was a completely real thing but in industries like the Caino's, etc) but that I was being a bit "too western" (for example thinking contracts could be sustained in court if they were 100 percent perfect).
My friends - more than one - said "you have to understand, this is post-Soviet business period - it is "Slavic/Asianic". Less based on law, more on vodka and the payments to a cop/prosecutor".
Now that has greatly lessened in 30 years (even in Russia) but the Russian ideal of spreading about the way of life/business where "sauna business" is the way to go persists. Who cares what was/is written on paper, lets have four shots and drink some pickle juice and we can agree on it - eff what is written on those fancy documents.
Do we want to live like that? I don't.
Russia wants their influence in Eatern Europe to continue and part of the lifestyle is unprofessional courts and cops. (They are bad now but TRYING to get better! LOL).

He clearly stated that he will not allow Russian children to have their bodies mutilated by pretending to be another sex, pit one section of people against another over race, or have his borders invaded by 425,000 known criminals and 10 million other economic freeloaders.
Is he wrong?

And he wants to destroy the rules-based international order that has made America the envy of the world over the last 100 years. He can’t stand it. So insecure.

In the US our govt just takes our money, they decide what corrupt individuals to give it to. At least you can choose who to payoff.

I thought the Putin interview was disappointing and wasn't really substantive
Of course, I wouldn't want to be in Russia and challenge or embarrass Putin. I don't to fall out of my hotel window or eat dinner and immediately get cancer.

Agreed. But at that point are you not just giving them a platform to spew propaganda?
If you want access to my viewers, I’ve got to be able to challenge you. If not then it’s a no-go.

Them stopping a journalist from an interview is not the claim (though they did discourage him heavily the last time with Putin), he is claiming they are forbidding Zelenskyy from doing it.
And the means by which they can pressure Zelenskyy to not do something are endless
