Rubin's comments are perfectly in line with what I have experienced living in California for the past 27 years. Leftists are more intolerant than The Moral Majority ever thought of being, while conservatives genuinely value diversity of thought and adopt a live-and-let-live attitude in almost all areas of life.

Just look at the Republican Party. You have Romney types, Trump types, Santorum social conservatives and Rand Paul libertarians. That spectrum doesn't exist in the Democratic Party.

free thinkers vs boot-lickers

not so surprising those who want 'the man' to force us to live a certain way hate freedom.

Bro, they got intersectional commies and intersectional almost commies.

The spectrum is wide!

Think about what tolerance is: it's not acceptance. If you accept something, you don't have to tolerate it because toleration by definition is allowing something you don't personally accept or agree with. The left condemns even toleration because inherent in toleration is the lack of acceptance or agreeableness, which is judgmental in nature.

If I said "I tolerate you", I'm saying I don't really like you being around me but I allow it any way. The left doesn't like the "I don't really like you" part of that statement because they feel judged. Ironically, they don't like the people who don't like them or their behavior or ideas, making them hypocritical in the process, but because they don't tend to think through their positions, they are fine with living a contradiction.

Can you imagine Rand Paul in the Democrat 'progressive caucus'? It would be must see TV.

Yup. And more dangerous. At least evangelicals are limited by the Constitution's protection against state-enforced religion practice. Secular leftisist are not encumbered by any limitations.

They'd never allow it. They are segregationists.

I've been saying that for years. What I would give for courts to rule the atheism is a religion.

And just as fun to hang around with as well. Both political parties have had problems understanding the concept that Americans do not vote for buzzkills.

Christian conservatives turned me away from Republican Party in the 90s. I’m just now thinking of coming back, but as a pragmatic libertarian.

This is conservatism in 2020, ladies and gentleman. "We are more tolerant than the left."

That may be true of post-Buckley conservatism, but that's the problem. It's totally fake and gay, and needs to be destroyed in favor of a more muscular/assertive right wing politics that is concerned with taking and holding power. There's a reason the left always wins, and it's because that's exactly how they view the political process. What you call "intolerance" and "hypocrisy" is just their political strategy.

"Pragmatic Libertarian" = I sit around with 5 other autists arguing about abstract economic/political models while everyone around me is involved in Machiavellian political schemes to empower themselves at the expense of me and mine.

Libertarians actually make Conservatism look pretty appealing by comparison.

No, that would be orthodox libertarians. I’m pragmatic. I understand pure libertarianism is utopian and a destination to which we are always traveling but never reach.
