And, of course, the answer is "Yes".

According to Chris Bosh:

quote:

It’d be hard to overstate the influence Hoosiers still has on that town. And if you haven’t seen that movie in a while, you might not remember the racial undertones, but we did. Hoosiers is about a team of white guys who played the right way taking down the City Boys, who just so happened to be Black. And any time you travel to Indiana for an NBA game, you’re faced with the same narrative: This is basketball country. Sure, many of the players on the Pacers were Black, but have you ever seen the crowd in Bankers Life Fieldhouse? shite’s as white as a Trump rally.

quote:

To some extent, this is true wherever you play in the NBA. Every team has every kind of fan—white and Black, rich and poor—but tickets are expensive, income inequality is real, and no matter the city, you’re liable to look at the stands—especially the courtsides—and catch a sea of white faces. For a long time, players kept quiet about this, but moments of reckoning like the one we’re in now are when we confront hard truths. Like the fact that the fans in the stands at NBA games tend to be much less diverse than the players on the court, not to mention the viewers watching at home.

Chris, you know court side seats are reserved for honky's right?

If you think that is what the movie "Hoosiers" is about you missed the whole point. It was a David vs. Goliath story and about redemption, not race.

I don’t understand how any self-respecting white person can continue to spend large amounts of money supporting organizations that allow views like Bosh’s.

Imagine going to a sporting event knowing the very people you’re cheering on hate you, want you to be destroyed, and are actively using their fame and money to obliterate the economic and civil system that has helped build your life.

I pointed this out in another thread, but this is just patently false.

The teams are far, far less diverse than fans in the stands.

The league is 75% black, about 23% white, 1.8 latino, and .2% asian, approximately.

I would be willing to bet that the fans in the seats are FAR more diverse than that.

But of course, what Bosh means by "diverse" is "black".

We need a program to put 100% black folks in the seats

None of the City boys are really even in the movie as characters. They aren't focused on and aren't a "villian".

They are just there at the end, as the more talented team.

The movie focuses on the boys and coach and their struggles, and is more about a bunch of farm hicks trying to overcome obstacles.

Remove the anti-trust exemption and watch the prices drop to the floor.

From the thread with the poster describing the roots of white racism: competition is racist.

Now I’m even more confused. According to the chart I thought whiteness was equated to being responsible and polite?

So a country of mostly white people has mostly white people at sporting events. What a revelation.

So he wants the crowds to be mostly black. That's "diversity."

Good. I'm glad they're showing their true colors. Kids' games have been given far too much importance in our society.

Maybe it's because one race is over represented on the court.
