You essentially made my point for me.

quote:How'd that work out? Did we get all the things we wanted? I'm old enough to understand how to learn from my mistakes. We can't get everything we want no matter how many tantrums we throw, so take the wins when we can get them.... This bill fully funds the southern border wall. Makes the Trump tax cuts permanent. Funds ICE to deport illegals...
I'm old enough to remember when MAGA folks got a house speaker tossed over this. Now they don't want it.

quote:No. This what the Mantra to get rid of the "blue dog" democrats like Bart Stupak. "We have to get something passed, even if it sucks" is never an argument of merit.
At a time when the dims had a supermajority in the senate? It's not exactly relevant at all to the current situation.

Thats how progressive think. "We have to do something" even if that something is worse than the original issue.

increase taxes on the rich
Do yourself a favor and just do a simple Google search on which country has the most progressive tax system in the world. The answer may surprise you. Raising taxes on the rich will not have the desired effect that you seek. We either need to slash entitlements, or raise taxes on the middle and lower classes. The reason most other countries can afford to have large social safety nets without going bankrupt is because they tax everyone. In America nearly half of all adults pay no income tax, and the majority of retirees get more in social security benefits than they paid in. You can't just expect the "rich" to foot the bill for all of the spending and expect balanced budgets; it is impossible.

Can you be intellectually honest for one minute?
I really don't think you can at this point. There is nothing absolutely wrong with being in the President's corner and criticizing him and/or his cabinet when they don't get it right.
That's really the very definition of being intellectually honest.

That's because the ICA was passed in 1974.
It lays out the processes.
It lays out the processes.

How'd that work out?

This bill reduces spending. Any description otherwise is a lie.

If they can pass the cuts, why don't they just add them to this bill?
BECAUSE THEY CAN'T DUE TO THE RULES. You've been told this a hundred times. At this point, you are being willfully stupid or just dishonest.
quote:
And what is so great about this bill without cuts?
Border security - you know what that leads to? That's right, less spending.
Work requirements for medicaid - less spending
Election security - this is more important than the debt. Without this, you lose everything. How easier would it be to pass cuts if we had more Republicans? But you people are too myopic to see this.
Reduced taxes - more tax revenue. That means the deficit gets reduced
Remove green incentives - once again, more tax revenue. One analyst predicted Tesla could lose 40% of their sales with the loss of 1.3t in EV rebates. Do you think this has anything to do with Elon's objection to the bill?
Plus, the bill cuts spending, despite all the lies.
You people are so short-sighted. There are plenty of things in the bill that will reduce the deficit. You just can't see it because it isn't explicitly written. You have to actually put on your thinking cap and ask the difficult question, "How will these changes that lower spending and increase tax revenue help reduce the deficit?"
The people against the bill have repeatedly lied and misrepresented the bill. Rand pretends he doesn't know Senate rules. He also admitted he didn't have a plan to actually get anything passed. His plan to "cut everything" is simple-minded and in no ways is attuned with reality.
It's great that all you fiscal hawks decided to finally take a stand when election security and border security is on the table. You're useful idiots to the democrats. The 20-30 dem congressmen that should be republican seats and all the illegal aliens still in the country thank you for not being able to see the forest.
There was also a thread yesterday that listed 50 positives from the bill. I know you people who spend every day on here saw it.

This bill actually cuts spending by 1.25 Trillion off the Biden budget.

Wait wait wait. So you're both advocating for more cuts, AND advocating that they work with Democrats to make that happen?
This might be the most braindead take imaginable. The reality is that we will only get cuts with bills passed only by Republicans. Dems will not vote for cuts. That's reality.

No, it's the opposite. You want Trump to fail, so you oppose this bill, even though it is a good one. It's really pathetic.

Yes, future Congresses can also pass laws. That is true. I guess we should just never pass anything and hope for the best?
