A simple fix: increase taxes on the rich and more spending cuts. Balance the budget.
If you want to see any progress made on bringing down the debt this is the only way.
simple minded folks love this statement until the goal posts are moved and you become "rich" in the eyes of Daddy Government
In 2008, taxing those whose income was at least one million per year one hundred percent the government would be funded for four months.
Our debt in 2008 was a little over 10 trillion and was 68 percent of GDP. In 2023 debt was 34 trillion and 122 percent of GDP. Our debt is now 37 trillion.
The solution won't come from taxing the income side more. It must come from cuts in spending.

BECAUSE THEY CAN'T DUE TO THE RULES. You've been told this a hundred times. At this point, you are being willfully stupid or just dishonest.

And what is so great about this bill without cuts?
Border security - you know what that leads to? That's right, less spending.
Work requirements for medicaid - less spending
Election security - this is more important than the debt. Without this, you lose everything. How easier would it be to pass cuts if we had more Republicans? But you people are too myopic to see this.
Reduced taxes - more tax revenue. That means the deficit gets reduced
Remove green incentives - once again, more tax revenue. One analyst predicted Tesla could lose 40% of their sales with the loss of 1.3t in EV rebates. Do you think this has anything to do with Elon's objection to the bill?
Plus, the bill cuts spending, despite all the lies.
You people are so short-sighted. There are plenty of things in the bill that will reduce the deficit. You just can't see it because it isn't explicitly written. You have to actually put on your thinking cap and ask the difficult question, "How will these changes that lower spending and increase tax revenue help reduce the deficit?"
The people against the bill have repeatedly lied and misrepresented the bill. Rand pretends he doesn't know Senate rules. He also admitted he didn't have a plan to actually get anything passed. His plan to "cut everything" is simple-minded and in no ways is attuned with reality.
It's great that all you fiscal hawks decided to finally take a stand when election security and border security is on the table. You're useful idiots to the democrats. The 20-30 dem congressmen that should be republican seats and all the illegal aliens still in the country thank you for not being able to see the forest.
There was also a thread yesterday that listed 50 positives from the bill. I know you people who spend every day on here saw it.
10000000% right

quote:No. But that's ONE BIG Beautifyl strawman you got there! I said no such thing.
Wait wait wait. So you're both advocating for more cuts, AND advocating that they work with Democrats to make that happen?
quote:Indeed! I'm just glad I wasn't the one that made it up.
This might be the most braindead take imaginable.

Correct, and this bill cuts spending. The people opposing this bill are the ones who don't want to fix our problem.

Correct. This is not Trump's budget.

Ok my bad. I thought you wanted cuts. So you don't want cuts and want Republicans to work with Democrats. That makes more sense.
That actually might be a more braindead take so I guess my imagination wasn't good enough.

Did you know that the president isn't a member of Congress?
Regardless, he has very publicly advocated for passing this bill so not sure what you're getting at here.

Yes, future Congresses can also pass laws. That is true. I guess we should just never pass anything and hope for the best?
Watching MAGA adapt and try to sell the "We'll get 'em next time" approach the GOPE has used for decades is amazing to watch. What a time to be alive.

It is impossible to answer these questions because you begin with a false premise. This bill has cuts. Try again with a good faith

fricking clown world.

This guy is such an idiot. He actually thinks this is Trump's budget. LOL!

More strawmanning. The "cuts' you claim don't come until the future.... while you argue that cuts are too difficult to pass. Do you think they will be easier to pass in 2028?
You don't seem to understand what a strawman is.

Still am conservative. We have before us the first, and likely only, bill that I have and likely will ever see that will cut entitlements in any way. I predict we will never see this come up again if this does not pass.

Pretty soon, they will start the "we will pass it next time" lines.
LOL. They are just anti trump. It's more than clear because they attack him no matter what is going on.
