What about labor? What about rent? What about liability insurance? That just shows poor business acumen there

Not included - $10/hr for a lazy employee to supervise the process.

I guess overhead doesn't count towards the cost of anything.

Congrats, MarketWatch, you've identified the direct materials for the product.

Exactly. That is only the cost of ingredients to make a pizza but not the “cost to make a pizza”.

Believe it or not it costs more than just supplies to make a product.

Guess those ingredients just hopped together, baked themselves, and served themselves in a building that just happens to be sitting there.

No one is forcing anyone to buy pizza. What's the problem?

to highlight some apparent incredible opportunity in the pizza industry, just waiting to be exploited by some new market entrants

I've been boycotting pizza places for a long time, never have cared much for pizza.

As far as mark ups go though, coffee and ice tea are the winners.People still buy it.
What about Popeye's red beans and rice? It's beans and rice. Probably costs less than 10 cents to make a bowl, and costs about 5 bucks.
If people buy it,it's their business. It's not like people have to have it.

I think that secret is out, especially in the Northeast.
I was just in a very small town in MA. for a couple of days, probably less than,2,000 people. There were at least 10 pizza places,1 Subway, A Chinese place, and 4 doughnut shops.1 McDonald's.

The "journalist" who wrote the article that was cited in gets PAID to report on business.

Let that sink in.
