A good and faithful servant went home today.

I've resolved myself to ignore the tempest-teapot "controversies" over Keller the past few years. Outside of maybe RC Sproul, he was the most instrumental in dragging me out of a theological slumber some 15 years ago.

He has finished the race.

This was my go to when I got to the point of total frustration with milquetoast, intellectually shallow preaching that is so common in American churches. I am sad at his leaving us, but I can be happy for him in a life lived with a real purpose

His books are excellent.

I highly recommend them.

100%

I think you can throw plenty of legit criticism at TGC of late, but it doesn't change the pretty huge impact he had

He probably lived out what he preached/wrote better than any “famous” pastor I can remember. That’s not to cast aspersions elsewhere, but a testament to how deeply he believed and lived the gospel message.

quote:

'I'm thankful for all the people who've prayed for me over the years. I'm thankful for my family, that loves me. I'm thankful for the time God has given me, but I'm ready to see Jesus. I can't wait to see Jesus. Send me home.'"

And he always did it with grace and dignity. Never out of anger or pride or a need for anyone to acknowledge he was right

I'm both sad and happy about that news. His books and ministries have been a huge blessing to the Church. He's home with His savior, so that is something to be rejoiceful for.

Even when attempting to be gracious progressives fail.

Tim Keller was a giant. Had a huge impact. His passing is very sad. He was only 73 and could have been well into his most productive years of writing and thinking if not for his battle against cancer the last few years. The church needs more like him and his influence will be sorely missed.

It has become hard to respect a lot of the "big name" pastors of late. But, Keller seemed to be the real deal. I'm the last person to care about "celebrity pastors," but Keller is someone that I would have really liked to have had a cup of coffee with.

Tim Keller had the Holy Spirit inside of him and it came out in his books.

Presbyterian?
If that means he was a calvinist, he'll be judged harshly.

Nope. 'Therefore, there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus" - Romans 8:1

Who said condemned?

I said judged. If you don't think he'll be judged, you're not reading the same Bible as me. Also, Luke 17:1-2

You said he will be judged harshly though.
