People do get sick. It's not a what if. Everyone gets sick at some point in their life. It's not like an option to not get sick.

Not everyone gets so sick they are unable to work or pay medical bills. And we have SSDI and medicaid for this reason.

Probably covered by the 25% that didn’t reach middle class..this is not a negative message of blame being relayed here, it’s a message of hope..

I am all for hope, but its not as simple as 1,2,3. Once again the number one cause of personal bankruptcies is medical. It's a good way to get kicked out of the middle-class even by doing 1,2,3.

What makes you say that? 100% of people who have obtained one million dollars have become millionaires.

Nobody gets to choose their parents. I can promise you my student didn't choose to be born HIV+ or to live in a home without utilities.

Yeah but if you're on medicaid and SSDI you are not middle-class. According to conservatives if you do 1,2,3 you're middle-class.

I suggest you read this article

Elizabeth Warren and her ilk are, as usual, telling a half-truth at best and often an all out lie.

And how much of these medical issues are due to poor life choices?

What if you work full-time and you get sick? Do you realize the leading cause of personal bankruptcies are medical related? I mean if you work full-time and can't afford health insurance or you have a high deductible policy offered by your job and you get a serious illness or if you are in an accident and you can't work how does 1,2, and 3 keep you out of going bankrupt?

Your scenario is certainly possibly and happens often not only to poor but also to middle class. Your scenario is based upon something that people cannot control. The only thing that the OP is talking about are things that you CAN control.

This in no way addresses my point that

You keep bringing up outliers. This is not about outliers. This is about average people making shitty decisions in life.

Statistically, according to the article, doing 1/2/3 gives a person a 75% chance of moving into the middle class and a 98% chance of living above the poverty line. Which of the 3 should they not do because they might get sick? Or are you suggesting that a few other things might help..if so tell us. Or are you suggesting it takes a bit of “luck”? Because I’d say that’s probably true as well. We are all a bad car wreck or cancer diagnosis from testing the limits of being able to be self sufficient.

1. Always buy stuff with credit.
2. Don't work.
3. Collect food stamps.

Live with them? Takes care of that high cost of living problem now doesn't it?

How can you work full-time if your parents have early stage dementia or have a disability? Live with your parents? That is a good idea to save money, but you have to pay for OTC things, rent or taxes or house payments, utilities, food and yes you have to take care of your parents and let's say you work at War-Mart full time where the management never offers you a consistent schedule and you do did 1,2,3.

Let's say you are married and did not have kids out of wedlock and you are doing 1,2,3? Things still happen. I am not denying hardworking and making good choices, but real life isn't as easy as someone making choices that you think they should make.

People like living with family nearby and living in communities they have known their whole life. People like to take care of family and value family in New York, San Francisco and Chicago. Just move to get away from family because conservatives what you to make choices.

according to what information?
I've answered this twice. They looked at all peoples. They didn't exclude based on background and upbringing. Here's a quote...
quote:

Our research shows that of American adults who followed these three simple rules, only about 2?percent are in poverty
Sample of adults not some adults.

What if, what if, what if. All outliers. Read the damn article.

That's fine. Just don't complain when you stay poor. You made the choice not to do what's necessary to move out of poverty.

Prostate cancer, leukemia, Lou Gehrigs's disease, breast cancer, ovarian cancer, brain tumors, MS, Pancreatic cancer, kidney disease, stroke are often due to things beyond your control and life choices. Age is the number risk factor for prostate cancer, breast cancer, and stroke and high blood pressure. So your solution is to not get old?

yeah, but we are all agreeing that a person does 1,2,3. They made the three right choices you wanted them to make.
