Here is the difference with the Ukraine thing. Russians are not defending “Mother Russia”. You put troops on Russian soil marching to Moscow, you would see Russian patriotism on a different level. Germans have phuckked around with Mother Russia twice. We know how that turned out.
You put 1 Soldier from the West on Russian soil, you validate everything Putin has ever said.

If you're talking about bringing in people as an O4 and they aren't picking up rifles, yet have rank and authority, then that's a red flag that you have the wrong answer. Make them DoD civilians and be done with it.

As it was explained to me by folks far further up the food chain when I was a DA civilian, there isn't as much guaranteed stability when relying on DoD civilians to fulfill roles like I'm talking about. As I said, it is a hard concept to wrap ones head around, but if we want to compete with China, we have to be able to attract the brightest of the bright in cyber. You aren't going to get that forcing them to come up thru the ranks be it officer or enlisted. And I'm pretty certain this board has criticized federal workers and their incompetence ad nauseum, is that who you want going up against the Chinese?

Folks here are impressed by the military technology first and foremost.

What do they say about the future and the severe collapse of STEM graduates coming out of college. The country is now down a long way in percent stem graduates

Maybe we can outsource tech to India and Bangladesh . Too late that was done 10 years ago.

If that was the case you wouldn't see State and CIA people running around theater like you do, you wouldn't see facilities like AAFES running etc etc etc. Look at the workforce at NSA and the like - DoD civilians and contractors all over the place.

I get it, but these types of people don't wear uniforms. They aren't fit to put on a uniform and we shouldn't cram them into one.

You've already said these would be the best of the best so...

You never give rank to those that haven't earned it. Technical skill is not a criteria for rank. You have to be a leader to get rank. The notion of general military authority in the UCMJ demands that. In fields that require a good bit of discipline, like medicine, you can bring them in, train them, teach them some leadership, then give them small amounts of rank and avoid a lot of problems. There's inherent discipline and unit identity in the medical community.

The people you're talking about are the ones that just ran FTX into the ground. Giving them rank is a disaster and a slap in the face for everyone else in uniform.

Get them onboard, just without the uniform. That's my whole point here.

I can only speak on behalf of Marines and that their SNCO's and most of the senior leadership are the glue holding them together. I receive several bulletins from multiple Marine Bases and units that I have served and it fricking saddens me where their priorities are. The recruits they are getting today are NOT the few and proud anymore. Just the few.

I know several solid GenZ's that are bypassing enlisted and OCS. I have no problem with military cutbacks anymore. I think the next war that affects me personally will be civil in nature. IDGAF about China, Russia, either of the Koreas, Ukraine, Middle East or Israel. Let those motherfrickers kill each other. Just don't ask me to fund it. I am over it.

All the tech in the world is pointless if you don't use it in a way to actually stop the threat.

War is ugly and we try to fight with scalpels when we need a hammer.

well we know now the Russians absolutely suck arse and their gear pretty much blows, and the Chinese have absolutely no experience. US military is full of experience in constant warfare for most of the last 30 years and have not lost so much as an engagement in military terms since Vietnam. It's political and strategically that we have sucked. On the ground, in the air, and on the sea we kick the shite out of anybody, but we will 100% get betrayed and let down by our leadership

Define best? The United States military has the capability to destroy the world 100x over. If you define “best” as sheer firepower, the U.S. military is second to none.

so you think we drew/lost WW2?

1. The current generation of man-children have nowhere near the stomach for a World War. The WW2 generation and potential-WW3 generation have nearly nothing in common.
2. The USA allowed socialism to continue existing by giving half the world to the Soviet Union. That's quite the draw.

Despite all the woke nonsense, I imagine the pointed tip of the spear is still sharp. Yet overall, the officer corps appears to comprised mainly of brown-nosing careerists and the enlisted ranks are filled with woke slugs. This is all by design.

Wokeness warriors take over the Pentagon: Service Members lament the military’s drift toward becoming a testing ground for social policy experimentation.

President Joe Biden recently declared that white supremacy poses the greatest threat to America’s national security. The Pentagon is taking the commander in chief at his word. Instead of monitoring external threats, the Pentagon is on a mission to identify and remove whomever it labels as extremists from America’s armed forces. Ironically, the CEWG has yet to define what it means by "extremism."

Extremism is usually defined as the threat or use of violence to achieve an ideological agenda. But the Pentagon is now poised to expand upon that definition to include constitutionally protected speech. In other words, sticks and stones may break our bones, but words are the biggest threat.

This should be alarming to everyone, no matter their political persuasion. If the Constitution no longer presents an impediment to appeasing the woke commissars on the far Left, it won’t be long before speech that has always been protected by the First Amendment suddenly becomes criminal.

….the American government now monitors social media activity in order to ensure service members don’t post, share, or like something "extreme." If this sounds eerily familiar, it’s because China has been doing it for years.

Eradicating the scourge of actual extremism is a noble undertaking. But instead of focusing on what divides us, the Biden administration should focus on what unites the public.

Instead of sending the message that conservatives, evangelicals, and Catholics are unwelcome in the military, we should reinforce to America’s young men and women what makes America exceptional. The values that drove me to join the Marine Corps many years ago were love of country, pride in service, and respect for selfless service and sacrifice.

Those are the timeless principles upon which America was built. Or so I thought. Sadly, adherence to those principles is more likely to get me and others labeled as extremists and kicked out of today’s military.

Several years ago, the Department of Defense produced a document that labeled those who believe in "states' rights and individual liberties” as potential extremists. Apparently, I was mistaken for thinking those were the things I was defending as a Marine. And despite data showing that religious people are the most likely to serve, we are now declaring them undesirable extremists.

All of this is a recipe for disaster. America has real enemies who seek to harm us, and those enemies are likely giddy with every woke pronouncement that America will continue to pour yet more valuable time, energy, and resources into its cold civil war.

Some have warned me that simply writing this article will likely result in my removal from the CEWG, or possibly even the Marine Corps, in which I continue to proudly serve as a reservist. But I love my country too much not to sound the alarm. And if my love of America is what leads to my removal, then so be it, as long as my discharge papers state "discharged for love of country."
