When people refuse to submit to the Lordship of Jesus Christ, they are in the bondage of sin and they're shackled with every form of immorality, unrighteousness and ungodliness and it takes an increasingly powerful external government to keep them from tearing society apart and this is why we need either self-government under God or we will have tyranny! A nation CANNOT EXIST and it's turned into one heap of a mess!
Folks, we now have the latter -- tyranny. Our nation is in a mess. Why? Because we have mocked God and refused His blessings and rejected His gospel. But, God has an answer for us: He is not mocked and He always has the last word. He has given our nation over (Romans 1) and He will ultimately destroy us if we do not turn back to Him.
This July 4th is about the most hollow and empty celebration of our nation's history that I can recall in my lifetime. It's sad. It's pitiful. I dare not say, "God bless America!" when our nation is writhing and zealously engaging in such immorality and wickedness with no shame whatsoever --- and doing it in God's face to boot!
"May God have MERCY on America!" is more like it for me from here on out.

The Greeks, who pioneered democracy, were polytheists. Maybe Penn should have said “ruled by Gods”.
Iran is ruled by God…and tyrants. Every other European country during Penn’s lifetime was ruled by God and tyrants.

Not correct. It means that a free people must govern THEMSELVES through God. He’s not saying government should rule through God as the Middle East does. A free people must be moral and know right from wrong. Immoral people cannot have freedom. As we’re seeing in our country today.

The mockers are so weird in that they don't see their lunacy. But such is the blinding effect of sin to the soul/spirit. "O ye fools, and slow of hear to believe all the prophets have spoken"

The God of the Bible, not the Q’uran, nor the gods of the pantheon provides an objective basis for morality due to His nature and characteristics. He is perfect in every way.
