quote:This is why Pt Beureguard being taken down is a disgrace.
I realize Lee was a complicated guy and the product of a different time, but I fail to see what he did for the city of New Orleans that warrants his glorification. What did he do?
He did so much for the city of NOLA, both for whites AND blacks.
He was considered a progressive, as he wanted whites and blacks to work and live together. Which was ludicrous in those times. Even the north thought he was nuts for this.
PT was actually a civil rights activist, and fought for the right for blacks to vote. And yet they want to rip his statue down

Nobody is bowing in reverence to Lee. It's a statue that showcases the history of the South. I get it, you progs simply want to whitewash history but for what reason? What possible reason could you have for removing the statues that have been there for many decades? What is it doing to the city other than triggering white liberal transgenders?
If preserving history is the concern, let's go back to calling it Tivoli Circle. That's what it was when the area was first constructed. The history argument doesn't work here because you are picking an arbitrary point in history to adhere to.

So their armies were insurrectionist, but their casualties count as "American" deaths. That's quite a double standard you've got there.
The U.S. would have to recognize the CSA as a sovereign nation for them to not be. US did not see these enemy combatants as foreigns soldiers but Americans in rebellion.
And also, they were the "Confederate States of AMERICA."

Well, if Tivoli Circle had a monument there, i'm pretty certain it would still be there. Well, up until today, until the liberals would link it with something they didn't like.

Although the traffic circle is commonly referred to as "Lee Circle", this ordinance makes clear that the "enclosure" containing the statue is to be known as "Lee Place", while the circle is to continue to be known as "Tivoli Circle". This ordinance contains no reference to the name "Lee Circle".
And this is the reason it shouldn't be torn down.

As an African I find it painful, and I think people whose ancestors were enslaved here may feel it even harder than I do as an African,” said slave historian Dr. Ibrahima Seck [quote]Seck said a slave caught running away, “would be taken before a court and the sentence would be being branded on one shoulder and with the fleur de lis, and then they would crop their ears.” Seck isn’t alone. Tulane history professor Terence Fitzmorris said, “It was a brutal way of scarring someone and also identifying someone as a particular troublemaker.” Read more:
Taken from the O-T. An article from another liberal who wants the Fleu-de-lis removed from history because they find offense with it.
Just admit it, you progressives are perpetually offended. So you should all be ignored.

I'd definitely say someone in this thread is seriously offended. Do you have a mirror handy?

I am. The stupidity of the every day liberal offends me as a human. It should offend every rational thinking human.

There used to be a carousel there prior to the Lee monument. Can we put it back? Why do you want to erase history?

So now you're changing your argument. A second ago it was whitewashing history, now it's because you think progressives are offended by everything.

Why was the carousel removed?

No, i'm not. My argument is the same. Idiot liberals want to tear it down because they need a social justice cause. I'm just giving you another example, genius.

It still is.

Both hold true, what's your point?

If it's just a statue, why does this bother you?

I wonder if the French put up statues to celebrate surrendering losers?

Hitler was a butcher, like Grant, and a madman like Sherman. Lee didn't go around sewing salt in the soil so crops couldnt grow. Sherman did that.
Like Rommel, Lee was a tactically brilliant general who fought for an unambiguously evil cause and was defeated by superior logistics and overall strategy.

Depends on which Jackson you're talking about.

Vous devriez aller à Paris et voir la place Vendôme.

Why was the carousel removed?
Because the statue was erected in its place during carnival season in 1884.

Wel your argument doesn't make sense because Lee's statue hasn't been there forever.

The real issue is how big of a dump Lee Circle currently is. They need to get rid of that Tivoli Place Apartment real bad.
