The Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals today agreed with a lower court that the congressional map enacted by the Louisiana Legislature following the 2020 census is discriminatory and likely violates the federal Voting Rights Act.

The decision comes after the Supreme Court upheld the Voting Rights Act in a similar case in Alabama and nearly 18 months after court proceedings in which Black Louisianians and civil rights groups presented their case for enjoining the map.

The appeals court set out a timeline for the state Legislature to adopt a new map by May 2024. If it does not do so or if it adopts a map that continues to violate the Voting Rights Act, the Fifth Circuit’s decision instructs the lower court to promptly conduct a trial and adopt an appropriate remedial map.

I think the more realistic challenge is by the organizations supporting black voters b/c one of those districts isn't likely to produce black politicians. It's barely 51% of the district's population

Gerrymandering should be illegal

And there shouldn’t be any mandates or courts forcing that crap. NOTHING should be forced or mandated just because someone is black. ESPECIALLY when it comes to voting because those people (most of them) vote strictly on skin color. It’s all bullshite and a slap in the face to everyone else.

In order to vote for anything you should have to own property.
Appeasing less than 15% of the population of America is asinine. Especially considering that probably over half of that 15% typically contribute absolutely nothing to society other than high crime statistics.
