No dead beats in Japan.

You can best bet there aren’t any rank and file in their cubes in Japan playing with Facebook on their iPhones while on company time unlike here

quote:

Japanese water company issues televised apology on behalf of worker who left his desk to buy lunch for a total of 72 minutes in a seven-month period - and dock his pay

quote:

64-year-old male staff member at the Kobe City Waterworks Bureau on the outskirts of Osaka, Japan, took approximately 72 minutes of lunch break over the course of seven months. But his employers took a dim view of his antics, arguing that he had frittered away company time in the pursuit of food

I don't put a lot of stock into a culture that believes in gouging a knife into their stomach just because they shamed themselves, but that just me.

I do. The people there have a sense of honor and pride in themselves and their families. Perhaps our society could use some of this to weed out those that are less than stellar and or are embarrassments to their families.

Well the constant and high rate of suicides somewhat contradicts this

There's the crux. Diverse societies will never obtain that status of a society made up of one ethnicity. Never.

If this were America and that were any worker of any age, particularly if in any one or more "protected class" ... that employer would have DOL, EEOC, Human Affairs Commissions, HR lawyers, and every other sort of HR leech all over their asses.

HOW DO THEY EXPECT PEOPLE TO DO WHAT THEY GET PAID TO DO AND HAVE VOLUNTARILY AND WILLINGLY AGREED TO DO!????

Granted ... 72 minutes over six months? To "find food" ? Doesn't seem to bad to me....granted, I am used to the laziness and lack of standards in America.

And you haven't? We all do but I'm not going to let culture dictate that I kill myself over it but you can go right ahead. Fine by me.

He took an average of 28 seconds a day for lunch. You seem pretty miserable.

There's a happy medium between work ethic and leisure. The Japanese are not necessarily what I would consider a model example of this.

I don't either. Nor will I owe my soul to the company store.

BTW, I think this story full of 16 tons of BS.

The Japs have an insane work ethic. That's why when they party, they party hard and have all of that weird shite for entertainment. Or because of radiation.
